Unknown/Closed Down Teams

I'm not sure we should have these sections, since they will be hard to maintain (like every time one of the tiny independent teams shuts down, we'd have to add it to the closed teams) and I'm not sure how useful they are to people. Also they are pretty incomplete and it would be a hell of a project to put every team that had ever closed down in that table. Maybe it would be better if we just focused on the teams who are actually currently racing? Recury 14:42, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

I think that if we just make it teams that have closed down in recent years, it will be just fine. You're right it would be impossible to list EVERY team that has closed down in NASCAR history. As long as its update regularly every time a new devlopment comes up, I think it'll be fine. --D-Day 15:56, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
Actually, now that I look at it after I finished formatting the whole page, they do seem unnecessary and kind of in the way. I'll still keep it on for the time being, but don't be surprised if you see it moved/deleted within the next few months.

Separate page

I am considering moving the unknown/closed teams to its own article. Any one else think that should be done before I do so? (This to make sure it's legal before I do that and have it deleted.) --D-Day 15:37, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

2006 Update

When would be an appropriate time to update this article for the 2006 season without being too speculative?--D-Day 20:38, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

For List of Indycar teams that I maintain, I decided to update them only when it has been announced that a driver will leave a team or a new driver for a team will be announced. I know you want to keep things really up-to-date, but I think thats the only journalistically correct way to do it. -Drdisque 22:16, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
I think I understand where you're coming from. Would updating the list as soon as the current season concludes with all the confirmed changes be reasonable?
I waited a week after the IRL season ended to start making confirmed changes for 2006. -Drdisque 22:30, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
I say wait for the awards banquet to finish before updating the list. - Casey14
Refresh my memory please. When is that again?! --D-Day 23:09, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
Last year it was on Dec. 9 -Drdisque 05:22, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
It's December 2nd this year. So is it agreed it's worth waiting until then? --D-Day 20:29, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Standards

Here are some standards and proposals I am suggesting for this page. Comments/suggestions/constructive criticisms are welcomed.

  1. Team names.—Preferably, the team's full name should be included, with a pipe link to their proper name, if applicable. I do not mean the LLC or anything like that(i.e. Waltrip-Jasper Racing Company LLC), but something like Chip Gannasi Racing with Felix Sabates. If a team name is not known, just put down the last name of the owner followed "Racing" or "Motorsports.
  2. Listed owners—For each car, the person credited owner's points should be listed as the owner. Obviously in the case of something Hall of Fame Racing, additional personnel should be listed.(Not sure where to put Terry Bradshaw with his team though)
  3. Who should be listed on here—Generally, "one-off" teams should not be listed on here. Unless they have a press release stating that they plan to run multiple races, they should not be included.
  4. New Teams—Obviously, not every team that announces its intentions is going to run. My policy is to put them on there when announced. They should be removed if nothing is heard from them in a year, or if they announce they plan to run X race, but do not and do not provide a reason as to their absence.
  5. Closed teams—If an operational team disappers and does not run immediatley, they should be put in the "Teams with unknown status" section." If nothing is heard from them in a year, it would probably be safe to put them in the closed teams sections.
  6. Full-time/Part-time teams—If a team announces it will run a full schedule, obviously put them in the full-time teams section, even if there are questions regarding its sincerity. If they choose to withdraw from a race, that does not automatically make them part-time. If they skip more than two races, the best thing to do would be to put them in the part-time section.

That's all I can think of. Feedback is appreciated. --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 15:48, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I've never followed the teams closely, so I have no comment. It all sounds reasonable. How might this apply to teams from the 1990s and earlier? I'm thinking about writing an article for a superteam from the mid 1950s that oddly from relatively close to my home here in Wisconsin - Carl Kiekhaefer. Royalbroil 20:27, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
I assume you're talking about teams from that period that have closed. I think same criteria would apply. --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 21:54, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Waltrip-Jasper

Yes, it is obvious it's really just a second Bill Davis team, but I think it should be listed as its own entry(see above in standards). Plus the team is supposed to really be on its own next year, so wouldn't it make more sense just to give its own entry anyway? --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 21:49, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Well I wouldn't be sure it would be on its own next year, seeing that Bill Davis Racing is also moving to Toyota. However, if you wish, just keep it under Waltrip-Jasper. But in reality, it is part of Bill Davis Racing. Casey14 19:19, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good. I noted that the team is in association with Bill Davis in its entry.
P.S. Here's the link saying that MWR will be on its own in 2007.[1] --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 21:51, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Lepage will continue to run full time

Lepage is going to continue to run full time for the rest of the year with FRM. He stated this on the Kevinlepageinc.com message board. Casey14 16:56, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

It has been changed. --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 17:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

#63 and #24 Truck Teams Full Time?

I'm not sure if either of these teams are full time, and it dosn't seem like it. Casey14 19:09, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

According to Truckseries.com these teams are Not full time.Casey14 22:10, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I need to stop relying on the Jayski team charts. :-) --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 22:20, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, Jayski is good to an extent, but once the season starts, he usually dosn't update it.Casey14 22:43, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Truckseries.com

Where is Truckseries.com's listings of which teams are full-time and part-time? --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 13:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

They don't exactly have a list, but under the owner points, they say how many races each team has attempted. Casey14 18:29, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I am thinking of nominating this here list as a featured list. Any suggestions for improvement? --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 10:35, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I was just going to say we should try to push to get something featured. I don't know if this article is stable enough but it might be worth a try; it's definitely very complete and useful. Here are my concerns:
  1. Looking at the featured list candidates, it seems like they really like color-coding in their tables (and it would look nice and make it easier to read). Maybe instead of splitting it up like Jayski's team chart we can put the full-time, part-time and unknown teams together in the same table and have a color for each. I still think we should get rid of or move the defunct teams off of here though.
  2. I don't really like the lead section. Seems more like what would go under a footnote than a proper lead. I will probably try to redo it later.
  3. The criteria say that an article doesn't need photos unless they are appropriate, unfortunately they are probably pretty appropriate here. It sucks because I work for these guys and I know they have around a million photos from the past couple years, including shots of every one of these cars, but there's no way in hell they would give up rights to them or anything. It's like around a million spoons when all you need is a knife 8(. Recury 15:18, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

FBR

It seems like the #14 is no longer full time, not attempting to qualify for the last 2 races. Anyone else agree we should take it off the list? Casey14 17:24, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Seems like a good idea to me. Just move it to the list of part-time teams. --D-Day on WHEELS!!! 18:25, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Notes

Casey14 had a good idea with putting notes down regarding team partnerships. If there are any more that have been missed, please add them. --D-Day What up? Am I cool, or what? 20:16, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

FRM in 2007

Kevin Lepage stated on radio that the team will only have one full time car next season, the #61. He also stated that FRM will practice at Daytona with both cars (#34 and #61, with another driver (possibly Chaffin), but no driver has been named to drive the #61 for 2007. The #34 will run part time and will be used to practice. Casey14 19:01, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Lepage has now stated that he will be the driver of the #61 full time in 2007. There may be some confusion this week because he is practicing FRM's #92. The reason is because the #61 cannot practice this week because of their spot in owner points (the even/odd thing). Casey14 15:11, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

FRM will now carry #34. Casino17 19:41, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Ware to Chevy

The team with Stanton Barrett tested a Chevy and is listed as a Chevy on jayski.com.

Casino17 21:09, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

H&K Motorsports

Jayski sourced that this team will run full time in 2007 with Trevor Boys. Casey14 20:52, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Since this team didn't even attempt the Daytona 500, it might be safe to say they aren't full time. Casey14 17:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I was starting to think the same thing. But I try to define full-time as running 4 out of 5 races at the beginning of the season, and then taking it from there. It could be a hauler breakdown, sponsor program (or maybe, they'll do what I've thought all along and not even run!!), but I'll wait until after California's entry list to come out to figure out what's going on with them and move them appropriately. --D-Day 17:25, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Roush Fenway Racing

OK, since I'm really confused about how that deal's going to work, how do we list it on here? --D-Day 00:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Bill Elliott Still driving for FRM

Elliott is still supposed to drive for FRM, and Andretti is only driving because he can bring a sponsor to the team. Elliott is supposedly going to drive races, after Jarrett has used all his champion provisionals up. Chaffin later as well. Casey14 21:04, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:NASCAR logo.png

Image:NASCAR logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

New format

What does everyone think of the new format made by the anon user? I don't have a particular preference, except this new one could still use some cleanup. --D-Day (talk) 20:26, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

It would be much nicer split into full time and part time teams. Casey14 (talk) 23:47, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I think I'll change it back. --D-Day (talk) 11:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Chevrolets

Can someone change the Nationwide Series makes from Monte Carlo's to Impalla's, which is what the NNS is running this year? I'd do it, but I don't have the needed skills -_- Nonpoint74 (talk) 01:38, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind, I just went ahead and did it. Wasn't as hard as I had thought after all... Nonpoint74 (talk) 20:40, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Flags

Does anyone object to having country flags changed to state flags? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zachattack9 (talkcontribs) 02:21, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

I dont like it. I want to see the American flag for those that are American. It's inconsistent as it is right now, since for some people it shows their country's flag, and for others it shows their state's flag. Maybe we can have two flags for each, one for country and another for state. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.211.251.103 (talk) 13:46, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I would go for state flags on the American drivers and country flags on the non-American drivers personally. Casino31, 17:09, 11 August 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Casino31 (talkcontribs)

Flagicons

After removing all the colors because of WP:COLOR, all flagicons should be removed from the article per WP:MOS. The link clearly reads "Flagicons should never be used in the birth and death information in an article's introduction and/or infobox, as flags imply citizenship and/or nationality." Thanks and happy editing. Nascar1996 16:58, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

I think the more relevant passage is "In general, if a flag is felt to be necessary, it should be that of the sovereign state (e.g. the United States of America or Canada) not of a subnational entity, even if that entity is sometimes considered a "nation" or "country" in its own right. This is partly for the sake of consistency across Wikipedia, but also because a person's legal citizenship is verifiable, whereas "nationality" within a country can be porous, indeterminate and shifting." but it still supports the same conclusion. In general, the state flags are not very recognizable and with the U.S. being a nation of free movement, it seemed stupid how some drivers had flags for states in which they had not resided in the past 30 years. -Drdisque (talk) 17:58, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Todd Bodine is going to be in a TOYOTA in the Daytona Nationwide Race (2/19/2011). And Almirola in the 51 in the Daytona truck race

That's why I added Germain Racing to the Rick Ware column. And he will be driving a Toyota, NOT a Ford. It's a deal between Rick Ware and Germain where Gaughan gets the points in the truck series from the 6 for the 15's points in the NNS. However, at Daytona, as mentioned Bodine will drive the #15 Toyota for Germain before Timmy Hill takes over in the #15 Ford for Rick Ware Racing at Phoenix.

Plus, Almirola will be in the 51 in the Trucks and I've seen that was taken off before.

Go on jayski.com every now and then and you'll see where I get the info. --Casino31 (2/10/11 - 10:21 EST)

Almirola was taken off and his slot was changed to TBA as there had been no official announcement from the Vision Aviation Racing Website until February 9, 2011

Thanks for clarifying about the #15, --Casino31 An honest mistake on my part. I am still pretty new at trying to help out. I have been reading Jayski.com religiously for over five years and it is truly the best but not always accurate. I try to google and facebook to read the team, sponsor and driver news.
