garbage

[edit]

What's the point of this garbage? There's no real content to the page and it contains dubious citations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.28.99.249 (talk) 18:17, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

no signs of improvement

[edit]

so this wasnt deleted, as it was deemed too soon to delete. this list is still extremely weak. along with List of giant monster films, just more incomplete fan driven lists. how do they provide significant redundancy with horror movies, or List of monsters? and if someone wants to improve either article, how about doing so? i will actually try to think about how to improve both, by at least giving a better definition at the top. but i dont expect to be very successful. I like the list of monsters because each monster is then linked to an article which should feature each film/book appearance. much easier to research and add to. how many films have vampires been in? or demons? Mercurywoodrose (talk) 01:35, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

well, how about these? weve only had them on WP for years

Terminator

[edit]

Yeah, how is this a monster movie? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.16.80.109 (talk) 19:09, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indented line Same reason why Frankenstein and the Wolfman are here. It is a monster. - 63.138.247.2 (talk) 16:37, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Monster(s)

[edit]

In the case of Terminator maybe it should not be android and instead Terminator (character concept). Also if the monster does not have a page and is more specific than "Giant Rat" then the use of simple text should suffice. Just my two cents. - 63.138.247.2 (talk) 16:36, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is the definition of a monster ?

[edit]

Should E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial be added? - FYI: I have been personally terrified by this ugly thing!
Do cute things count when they are abnormally huge? e.g. Huge bunnies in 'Night of the Lepus'
87.66.231.239 (talk) 19:50, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you can find a source that describes E.T. as a monster movie, I'd like to see that source. :)
I kid, but it's not on us to say whether a movie should be added, it's on whether sources have described the film thusly. DonIago (talk) 20:10, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't delete

[edit]

I have just made huge improvements to the organizing, cleanup and introduction of this article. I feel it is more professional now and deserves to stay on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.16.80.109 (talk) 19:35, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why giantmonsters?

[edit]

Why doesn't the list just say monsters instead of giantmonsters. I doesn't make much sense — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.87.72.81 (talk) 12:30, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of consistency

[edit]

Can't help but notice how inconsistent this list has been and its edits. Somebody (or really some people) seems to be removing items sporadically (like Kaiju films for example) but end up leaving leftovers from the same group (same group as the ones deleted, for example, a lot of kaiju films were removed and yet some were left over like Varan the Unbelievable). -24.211.226.190 (talk) 20:27, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally all items on this list should be sourced to establish that they belong on the list. Consequently, right now there's a large number of entries that technically shouldn't be here. Personally I try to resist making wholesale cuts, but when the list has been flagged since 2010 something needs to be done. DonIago (talk) 20:30, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aside from some removals still kind of going against the description I quoted earlier, that also practically eliminates a good amount of the older films on the list, depending on what type of citations or sources are allowed. -24.211.226.190 (talk) 20:46, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Any reliable source describing the film in question as a monster movie would suffice. Ideally one source would list many of the films. DonIago (talk) 12:25, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, per WP:RS/IMDb. DonIago (talk) 17:55, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Still Terrible

[edit]

What's with this "list"? It's missing a ton of notable monster movies, while listing a ton of thoroughly UNnotable "monster movies", which look like they're utterly insignificant student films. Perhaps this article should be just simply deleted. Someone start the self-destruct sequence, please. Alialiac (talk) 18:18, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFD is over thataway. Otherwise, the list includes movies that have been cited to reliable sources. You're welcome to add films with appropriate citations. Unsourced entries can be removed. Which specific entries do you feel should be removed? Not much we can do if you only want to discuss the situation in such broad strokes. DonIago (talk) 21:18, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Monster" means a fictional creature

[edit]

I'm pretty sure the word "monster", in the context of "monster movie", refers only to fictional creatures. Right now this list is a mess, containing lots of movies about people terrorized by real animals, and, in one case, Cub, just a regular human (though the protagonists think it's a werewolf, if I understand the synopsis). I don't believe The Grey or Jaws are monster movies. Arguably even the Jurassic Park films are not, since the dinosaur species there are all real, as far as I know, even if the way they were created is fictional. I did a mass deletion of most of the films that feature non-fictional creatures, but it was reverted on the grounds that these are "sourced entries". But if you look at the actual sources cited, they seem worthless - I think none of them even contain the word "monster".

More importantly, if "monster movie" just means "humans under attack by a non-human creature", it stretches the definition completely out of scope. Is The Birds a monster movie? What about Outbreak? Korny O'Near (talk) 16:35, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Monster movie doesn't appear to stipulate that the creatures need to be fictional. That said, if some of the references used aren't specifically referring to the film that they're supporting as a monster movie then I'm open to removing those entries.
Has anyone called Outbreak a monster movie? That seems to be a fairly absurd argument. I could see sources referring to The Birds as a monster movie. DonIago (talk) 18:11, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, none of the references for the films I deleted refer to them as monster movies. Korny O'Near (talk) 20:00, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I've reinstated your removal! DonIago (talk) 21:20, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Korny O'Near (talk) 03:53, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
