Work to be done

[edit]

I am working to bring this article up to WP:Featured list status. This is a list of things that still need to be done; I will cross them off as they are completed:

  • There is no source anywhere (at least, nowhere that I can find) that lists the exact dates (day, month and year) for every lieutenant governor. Therefore all of these need to be sourced individually. Fortunately, finding newspaper references is not particularly difficult, although tedious in the extreme. — done —Salmar (talk) 03:12, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I need to look through the intro and make sure that there is nothing that needs to be added/removed/referenced. If possible, I should create a Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin article out of the redirect, much as Governor of Wisconsin and List of Governors of Wisconsin are separate articles. — done —Salmar (talk) 17:47, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • In Wisconsin Territory, the position of Territorial Secretary was in many ways similar to that of Lieutenant Governor. Should these have their own list (ie, in their own article), or, since there were only six should they be here with an explanation? — done —Salmar (talk) 02:32, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • A description of the territorial history of Wisconsin should be included, as in List of Governors of Wisconsin — done —Salmar (talk) 02:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Try to find more images — unfortunately, I have no idea how to find out if the images on the Lieutenant Governor site are in the public domain =/ —Salmar (talk) 02:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Create a "Living lieutenant governors" table. Unfortunately, the only source I can find that has biographies of all the lieutenant governors (the Office of the Lieutenant Governor site) has apparently not been updated recently: some (at least 2?) of the biographies imply that people who are dead are still alive. Perhaps this table should simply be omitted. — table will be omitted for reason stated —Salmar (talk) 02:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Proofread for typos, &c.

Salmar (talk) 18:04, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More things to do:
  • Try to find a reference other than the 1929 Blue Book (which may have some sort of typo/be wrong in this instance) that unambiguously states when Wyman Spooner was sworn in
    • This is almost unbelievable. Allow me to sum up what I know for sure:
      1. Blue Books published in years during/shortly after his term (don't know the exact period) list his inauguration as "January 1, 1864". This is clearly wrong, because the new political year begins on the first Monday of January, ie, January 4, 1864, the day the Governor was sworn in. Also, they list the terms of all lt. govs as beginning on January 1, which seems implausible, to say the least.
      2. Blue books from some date until 1929 list the date as "January 14, 1863"; he was elected in the elections of November 1863, therefore this is impossible (unless he was appointed by acting-Governor Salomon? but this seems unlikely, since Salomon was technically still the lieutenant governor). Perhaps January 14, 1864 was meant? But this is impossible, as will be seen.
      3. Blue books after 1929 list only the year 1864, with no day.
      4. In the newspapers from January 1864, Spooner is not mentioned in the articles about the inaugurations, despite the secretary of state, attorney general, &c. being mentioned. Therefore it seems certain he was not sworn in on the same day as the Governor (January 4).
      5. However, an article dated January 13, 1864 mentions him and calls him "Lieutenant Governor". It makes no reference to his inauguration. He must have been lieutenant governor before January 13.
      6. So far as I can find, there is no newspaper article mentioning the day he was sworn in.
    • How on earth can I include this in the footnote without violating WP:OR and/or WP:SYN??? —Salmar (talk) 04:45, 26 February 2008 (UTC) — as done as it could ever possibly be —Salmar (talk) 19:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Somehow add, in a non-blatant/irritating fashion a note that mentions that periods during which the lieutenant governor acted as governor are only mentioned if 1) they took place before 1979 and 2) the lt. gov. would have actually become gov. had the 1979 amendment existed then (ie, the governor died or resigned); other periods during which the lt. gov. acted as gov. (before or after 1979) (ie, gov. is out of state or seriously ill) are not mentioned (mainly because finding a source for all of those would be impossible). The Newspaper Archive already wants to make me pull my hair out at times! — done —Salmar (talk) 20:10, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed the article and found it complete. I did one word addition. Great job! Royalbroil 01:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
