Moves
[edit]This page has now twice been moved to OPCW member states. I think this is facually correct. A Chemical Weapons Convention State Party,is (as a result of the convention) also a OPCW member state. We therefore have a single list in which we explain that. Now the question is what should be the title. I think that the Convention is in this case more important than the administering organization (note, this is different for the NATO etc where the constituing convention did mainly that: constituting, here the convention constitutes OPCW, but also makes all the requirements very specifically on destruction etcetc) and therefore would like to keep it here. Any move should go via WP:requested moves and obtain consensus! L.tak (talk) 14:02, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- As of now the above claim "This page has now twice been moved to OPCW member states." is a false claim [1], see
- 21:00, 7 March 2011 TAG-A-b10 , moved List of parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention to Member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention: not only a list and the parties are states, see other such pages at Member state
- Objection was : contested move, please discuss. In short: The OPCW has member states, which are states parties to the convention
- 13:39, 12 March 2011 TAG-A-b10 , moved List of parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention to Member states of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons: The official website http://www.opcw.org/about-opcw/member-states/ calls the members member states and has
- The objection against the 7th March move was taken into account.
- This time the official name for the list of member states on the OPWC website was used as basis for naming, changing official "OPCW Member States" to Member states of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. This was documented in the move log.
- Objection was: TAG, just saw you moved again the page. I will undo that again. If a move is contested, the only way to move it, is via WP:requested moves. Please do not move if you have no consensus based on a discussion there! [2]
- 21:00, 7 March 2011 TAG-A-b10 , moved List of parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention to Member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention: not only a list and the parties are states, see other such pages at Member state
- Getting a good faith edit reverted before discussing and WITHOUT providing a reason other than "discuss first" is too much for me.

- He, it's just wikipedia;-), no reasons to take thinks too seriously... You are right and made 2 different proposals and I apologize for suggesting it was not, but our prior discussion on your second change helped me make the error. The first proposed change we both agreed was not ok. For the second one, you suggested it on user talk:L.tak, then I replied on your page that I didn't agree. I therefore was slighty annoyed you were going on with it; and in the process I mixed up the move you did perform a few days ago and the one you suggested to me (but which I contested both). That doesn't mean we cannot discuss, it's just that in that case it is more sensible to use talk page space before... I just pointed out the channels! Hope you can unscramble and continue to contribute... L.tak (talk) 14:42, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

The result of the proposal was no consensus. --BDD (talk) 00:01, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
List of parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention → Member states of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons – 1) per http://www.opcw.org/about-opcw/member-states/ and 2) for consistency in Category:Member states by organization. It is the only article in Category:Member states by organization that uses "List of parties to ...". So in case the list does not contain "member states" it should be removed from that category and solely kept under Category:Lists of parties to treaties. Relisted. BDD (talk) 19:36, 29 January 2014 (UTC) Androoox (talk) 10:47, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well, for me the fact that they are states parties to the convention is more important than a result of that: the membership of the OPCW. And while it would make the category Category:Member states by organization consistent with others; it would be inconsistent with its presence in Category:Lists of parties to treaties… I will make the cat consistent by putting the category on the redirect page (we can change the other way around, should your proposal gain the consensus…) L.tak (talk) 16:00, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- OK, fine. Thanks for the fix. Would you like to change Member states of the Council of Europe to "List of parties to the ..."? If not, what is the difference? Androoox (talk) 06:48, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'd prefer not. The convention there is the statute of the Council of Europe and thus an instrument exclusively for establishing the organization, whereas the Chemical Weapons Convention sets out obligations for member states not to use and to destroy chemical weapons, (its main aim) but also establishes an international organization… L.tak (talk) 11:57, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose per L.tak. The significance of this list is that the parties have signed an international agreement binding themselves to the elimination of chemical weapons, not that in consequence they became members of the implementation body.
The nominator's point about Category:Member states by organization is a little disingenuous. The article is also in Category:Lists of parties to treaties (and was there when the rename was proposed, and all but one of the 21 pages in that category uses the word "parties". --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:33, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
