Scope

[edit]

This list appears to be a listification of Category:American sandwiches. Is this page a prelude to a CfD for that category? What does this list provide that can't be achieved by going to List of sandwiches and sorting by "Origin"? What's the motivation for creating this list? Ibadibam (talk) 21:26, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article qualifies per WP:NOTDUP relative to Category:American sandwiches. The article also qualifies per WP:LISTPURP (e.g. see the article's page views for July 2014 of 6,557). Many of the sandwiches herein are not present in the main list of sandwiches article, and if anything, a merge of those to this would be more in order, rather than vice versa. Inclusion criteria

[edit]

The lead says that this is "a list of American sandwiches" but the list also includes several sandwich-related topics that are not themselves sandwiches, like Sandwiches That You Will Like and Portillo's Restaurants. It also includes generic and branded instances of the same sandwich, like hamburger and Whopper. This makes it more of an "American sandwich portal" than a discriminate list. Which would be the better form for this page to take in the long term? Ibadibam (talk) 21:26, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this list is a total mess. For starters, we absolutely should not have brand name sandwiches on this list. The list should include hamburgers, not Whoppers and Big Macs. Also, we should be keeping the list to things that are generally recognizable as being some form of sandwich. If you like a Banana and Mayonnaise Sandwich on toasted rye, that's fine, but it doesn't make it an "American Sandwich." 98.180.36.13 (talk) 02:08, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. The list is a mess as it mixes hamburgers of various types with sliced meat sandwiches and submarines. It may be worth converting it into a category of categories. That way there is little duplication and there's a sense of order. STrRedWolf (talk) 18:28, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Separate section for proprietary sandwiches

[edit]

In line with the discussion above, I would like to suggest that proprietary sandwiches (Whopper et al.) be separated out from national or regional sandwich styles/types that are served at various establishments, or prepared at home. I'd shed no tears if copyrighted sandwiches were removed entirely, but at the very least they should be in their own separate section. Any objections? It might be clearer and easier formatting to include proprietary as a sublist, eg...
  • Hamburger
    • Big Mac
    • Whopper

Change in format

[edit]

I've just converted this list to a table format, to go in line with other food-related lists (particularly List of sandwiches) and to improve content presentation and illustration. Some of it is empty (missing descriptions, images, etc.), but I should have it filled in within a few days. If anyone objects, leave a message here. Pinging Northamerica1000, page creator and main contributor. Thanks, Colonel Wilhelm Klink (Complaints|Mistakes) 21:28, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Colonel Wilhelm Klink: Thanks for improving the article. I think the addition of a table looks fine. North America1000 19:53, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; since it was a major change, I thought it best to leave a comment here. Colonel Wilhelm Klink (Complaints|Mistakes) 19:55, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sub

[edit]

Why have an "American Sub" and "Sub" on the List of American sandwiches? This seems redundant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.96.38.41 (talk) 21:50, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
