As far as I know Light Railway is actualy older than heavy rail, the earliest "railways" in mines, did actually have tight curves and lightly built track, didn't they?Myrtone (the strict Australian wikipedian)(talk)
UK first authorisation
[edit]The article contains the assertion that Light Railways were "built or operated in the United Kingdom under the 1896 Light Railways Act". The first Parliamentary recognition of the concept was the Railway Construction Facilities Act of 1864 (see page 8 of Messenger, The Culm Valley Light Railway for example). There are many other aspects of the phraseology of the UK part of this article that seem to be not encyclopaedic. Afterbrunel (talk) 20:52, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
UK: Docklands Light Railway
[edit]The article currently states: > The Heart of Wales Line [...] appears to be the only part of the National Rail [...] system run as a light railway except for the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). <
This needs unpacking and re-writing, because
- The DLR is not part of the National Rail system.
- The DLR (despite its name) is not AFAIK run as a light railway in the same way as the Heart of Wales line is (i.e. subject to an Order made under the 1896 Act).
Will, however, wait a while to see if anyone has anything further to add before I make any changes. -- Picapica (talk) 19:27, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
I have removed the reference to the DLR being part of National Rail as this is not the case and never had been. Rjleach (talk) 05:30, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
