Le Baiser de la fée vs. Le baiser de la fée

[edit]

It appears that the correct capitalization is, Le baiser de la fée; is there any objection to such a move? I also intend to add a bit more about the dance. — Robert Greer 17:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. The correct French capitalization is really Le Baiser de la fée. — Trimmo (talk) 20:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that's why I asked (Scandinavian languages are my domain, as well as dance.) City Ballet's website is inconsistent (and wrong in both places!) and most recordings seem to follow the latter — all lower case except the first word, Le — incorrect style. — Robert Greer 02:23, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've finally added the ballet info. — Robert Greer (talk) 19:09, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, both options are widely used in French, as well as for French titles in English-language sources. The simpler one is to capitalize only the first word and any proper nouns ("Le baiser de la fée"; "Le pouvoir de Napoléon"); the more complicated one, which is preferred by the MLA, for example, is basically the same but, in case the first word is not a noun, also to capitalize the first noun occurring in the title ("Le Baiser de la fée")—even if there are several intervening modifiers (e.g., "Le meilleur et plus grand Événement de l'année.").—Jerome Kohl (talk) 19:48, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all the main UK print publishers (Oxford etc.) - and the Opera Project here - follow the simpler form Le baiser de la fée. But this needs to be decided at the project level - in this case Contemporary Music. Ideally they should have a guideline. (They could of course simply adopt the one at the Opera Project and save themselves some trouble!) --Kleinzach 07:47, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But doesn't Wikipedia need to be consistent? I mean, it's not Les Noces, but Les noces. -- JackofOz (talk) 15:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've now made the change. --Kleinzach 00:04, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Le baiser de la fée (Balanchine)Le baiser de la fée – Once again User:Robertgreer's complete mess of ballet pages shows itself to me. It's VERY clear that the disambiguation page is not needed, and the fact that Le baiser de la fée (Stravinsky) redirects to Le baiser de la fée (Balanchine) is insanity. It's impossible for a non-admin to fix this mess, so... ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 18:43, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, I think. Are there any other notable basier de la fées other than Stravinsky/Balanchine? (And even if there is another notable choreography, for as long as the music refers to Stravinksy, I'd say the article should remain "Le baiser de la fée" without qualifying parenthesis.)
