Larry Mendte in San Diego
[edit]"For a short time during his stint in San Diego, Mendte also performed as a stand-up comedian in both San Diego and Los Angeles. He also wrote and produced a humorous feature called "How Come?" that ran nationally on the syndicated show Hard Copy.
Larry Mendte on WABC's Eyewitness News in 1985From 1984 to 1988 he was a weekend anchor on WABC-TV's Eyewitness News. He has also anchored the news and was an investigative reporter at WBBM-TV in Chicago from 1991 to 1995. While at WBBM, Mendte's series of reports on school bus safety resulted in a new state law. Mendte also anchored the news at KFMB-TV in San Diego and WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio."
Ouch, this exchange makes my head hurt! Larry Mendte was NOT an anchor in San Diego, he did the weather. Previously, KFMB TV 8 had limited weather coverage, so it was the idea of the News Director (Jim Holtzman, I believe), to have the weather presented in a commical way, since San Diego has so many fair weather days (sorry, I don't have notation for this but it was reported several times in the San Diego Union). Larry would basically do a stand-up routine with the weather.
But people still did not seem to like this, because, as it turns out, San Diego does get weather every now and then, and in the early 90's (1991?), Mendte and KFMB had a mutual parting, and he was replacedby Loren Nancarrow.
Mendte article
[edit]This article has been pruned of a huge amount of self-serving, POV text and tagged for citations, but I suspect it will require continued monitoring, for the time being anyway. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 02:51, 26 March 2010 (UTC) Updated again for WP:NPOV and WP:MOS; lots of dead links and unsourced text. This is an encyclopaedia not a Mendte fansite. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 01:16, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Much of the material taken out is factual. Facts are not something to be omittedbecause you don't believe they should benefit the subject. They either are or are not true. This site, nor any other site, should not be subject to manipulation by either fans or enemies of the subject. I removed an earlier suposition on this page because it was just that - suposition. There is a civil action pending against Mendte and you are right RMS125 that we should be extra vigilant of both including and EXCLUDING facts. Mendte deserves to have his criminal conviction as part of his encyclopedic record, but he also deserves his work with 9/11 First responders, Alex's Lemonade Stand, Veterans, School Bus Safety and his countless journalistic awards to be highlighted. - NewYorkNYny
--UPDATE-- Also since the article has been pruned and "objectional" material has been removed - why are the messages at the top of the article necessary. If the "dispute" has been resolved they should be removed. Seems heavy handed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NewyorkNYNY (talk • contribs) 20:44, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
I am not an "enemy" of Mendte, nor am I a fan. NewYorkNYny is obviously a fan. That's fine, but we tell the truth "warts and all", we use encyclopaedic language and we provide valid references for text. ("Supposition" is not spelled "suposition", BTW.) And "Alex's Lemonade Stand, Veterans, School Bus Safety" is cruft (i.e. trivial promotional text). Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 21:19, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- The bigger point here is that Mendte has had a remarkable career in is awards, accomplishments, in his fall and in his comeback. It is all factual and need not be debated he if factual. The fact that the is a new school bus safety law in Illinois that is the direct result of this journalist, that an eternal flame that was out for a decade in Philadelphia is now burning because of this journalist and that a yearly telethon that raises millions to fight pediatric cancer is the direct result of the work of this journalist is all remarkable. All of this efforts have been rewarded with awards and commendations - is that cruft just because it is positive? I would argue that it is part of what make Mendte worthy of mention here and it made his fall from grace even more of a story of note. It also made his comeback and the fact that he was the media engine that got the 9/11 First Responders Bill passed even more remarkable. If an online encyclopedia is not to detail a subjects noteworthy accomplishments along with his or her failings, it is incomplete. As mentioned above, there is a civil case and a team of lawyers and a marketing expert who wants to make Mendte look as bad as possible. This smells of their efforts. Wikipedia must be above that. The comment above that Mendte's outstanding accomplishments are cruft belies the statement that the writer is neither fan nor enemy, there is an obvious bias in his writings. I say allow any and all facts that can be substantiated and and can be cited. The fact that the is a media record should show that the item is noteworthy. Otherwise this debate does nothing but hurt the credibility of the site and it's guardians. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phillynet (talk • contribs) 11:28, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
- I would tend to agree that the tags on the page are heavy-handed and the attacke on the content of the site seems motivated by interests other than objectivity. The tags should be removed and the Larry Mendte entry should be monitored for both unwarranted additions AND delitions. His accomplishment certainly rise to the level of notable. - Newzzbozz — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newzzbozz (talk • contribs) 12:49, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
- I find it funny how "two" (?) "new" users with no editing whatsoever to their credit both managed to find their way to this talk-page. If you want to add/restore stuff ("Alex's Lemonade Stand, Veterans, School Bus Safety"), fine, as long as it is intelligible -- which it was not before -- as well as properly sourced/referenced, germane, and clear.and nexused to Mendte.Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 13:07, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

I believe I have addressed all of the required citations and amended copy to make certain it was specific to citation. I would remind that Wikipedia's guidelines describe dispute messages as a last resort. The hope is that disputes can be worked out elsewhere. In the future on here and other pages, care should be taken before the scarlet letter is embossed on the main page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Giantsfanns (talk • contribs) 14:17, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

POV Tag
[edit]Just added a tag noting that the neutrality of this article is disputed. The career section is far too detailed and many passages are unsourced or rely on articles authored by the subject (e.g. "Larry Mendte: My Trip to Libya"). The Guilty plea section should have a more neutral title and fewer details about Mendte's objections unless they can be adequately sourced. In short, this article is a mess right now.
