Map

[edit]

Hi, can someone add a map of the area? Wiki-uk (talk) 16:47, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Names, moves, reverts, etc.

[edit]

Whether it's "Region" or "Area", we should decide here. And you don't like a move, the fix is not to copy-paste the contents to swap with the redirect, but rather to ask for a move revert at WP:RMTR. So I've undone the copy-paste move, undone the name change in the article, and asked for the move to be reverted, so we'll be back to the state of about a week ago. Let's talk. Incorrect naming of title - self-contradictory tag

[edit]

The title of the page is clearly wrong. Even though the name of the page has changed, the text of the page still lists what seems like the correct title "Kolkata Metropolitan Authority". Doing a quick google search this seems to be the official page. This move should be reversed, and I wonder if this needs to go to one of the higher forums, as there seems to be a bit of edit warring previously over this. I also think it's a bit of poor form to edit the title, and then not actually edit the contents of the page and add the necessary citations. - Master Of Ninja (talk) 16:43, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The response to an editor coming across this page, and making valid points, is not to delete the topic in the talk page. I see someone tried to encourage discussion before this as well. This issues need to be talked through. If it gets to it I'll just put this page up for consideration of admin move or deletion. - Master Of Ninja (talk) 09:27, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Master Of Ninja
First of all, you are confusing this page for Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, the organisation which manages this metropolis. Secondly, this page represents an Indian metropolitan area known as "Kolkata Metropolitan Region" (centred around the megacity of Kolkata), an counterpart of other metropolitan areas in India like Mumbai Metropolitan Region (Mumbai) and National Capital Region (New Delhi). You can also refer to [1] to look at what the official website of the authority defines the region, as it is, which is depicted by this article. I hope I have cleared you the basics.

Now, the "self-contradictory" tag is given for this article just because of the word "Region/Area". Both are interchangeably used here and both mean the same thing. This was the topic of this article's talk page a few months back. The article's name currently is absolutely appropriate (which I can vouch for being a resident of this region), and hence I hastily removed the tag and talk template, to avoid any discussion. I should not have done that anyways and hence I apologise for that. Rourib Dutta (talk) 16:33, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The name of the page should remain "Kolkata Metropolitan Region", so that the article can remain more centralised and clubbed with the article of other Indian metropolitan areas, which have been named as "region" and not "area". This is my argument. Rourib Dutta (talk) 16:37, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am a late replier to this discussion. But in every official documents it mentions KM Area not region while in other cities like Mumbai or Bangalore it mentions Region. Since the official name (and known name) is KM Area shouldn't that it be? AnkurPl 17:58, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot about this topic. All information on Kolkata refers to it as the Kolkata Metropolitan Area - while it is a region (with a small "r"), it is not named as a "Region". It should not also be named "Region" for "consistency" - this is moving towards breaking Wikipedia:No original research. I note your link [2] - this clearly defines it as "Kolkata Metropolitan Area" on the map, and abbreviated as KMA. This needs discussion because "Kolkata Metropolitan Area" is clearly the title of this page. You group these areas together with Wikipedia categories - not by trying to standardise titles of the page. - Master Of Ninja (talk) 11:49, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
