First distinguished?

[edit]

Knollys, the name of an English family descended from Sir Thomas Knollys (d. 1435), Lord Mayor of London. The first distinguished member of the family was Sir Francis Knollys (c. 1514–1596)..."

Shouldn't Sir Thomas be deemd the dirst distinguished member of the family? Or does being Lord Mayor of London not qualify one as "distinguished"? --Jfruh (talk) 18:31, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

William Knollys

[edit]

I wonder if anyone could shed some light on the provenance of Sir William Knollys, who I presume was part of this family. He was Treasurer of Scotland, and Master of the Hospitallers at Torphichen preceptory, and died alongside James IV of Scotland at the Battle of Flodden 1513. Pronunciation

[edit]

This article never indicates that the name Knollys is pronounced the same as Knowles. Is this because the pronunciation varied from person to person and time to time, or can we add the pronunciation in the assumption that it's valid, at least in modern English, for all the people mentioned?
