Birthplace?

I'm finding conflicting locations from various websites. Official USA swimming bio has location as Bethesda. Official London 2012 profile has location as Washington D.C. Just searching random articles on Google has both locations. Anyone have any concrete reference to clear this up? Just to note, from using USA Swimming a lot, I have frequently found errors on that site. 108.225.117.120 (talk) 16:53, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Edit request on 4 August 2012

In the Personal life section of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katie_Ledecky Please remove ‘Katie Ledecky resides in Bethesda, Maryland, where she attends Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart.[1]’ to, ‘Katie Ledecky, of Bethesda, Maryland, attended her neighborhood parochial school, The Little Flower School, from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. Katie completed her freshman year of high school at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart,[1] immediately before the 2012 London Olympics’, because the latter version is comprehensive regarding her educational background. ( The Little Flower School educated Katie for 9 years, and it deserves mention, imho. Thanks, Ed Lyons edlyonsjr@ymail.com)

Recent reverts

I recently reverted these and these edits. My reasoning for the former is that I thought it was bulky, excessive, and not necessary. If we're going to add every American record she breaks, that's going to be a very very long list. Mentioning it in the body of the text will suffice.

As for the section on her high school career, that is again excessive. She's primarily known for her international exploits. I don't believe there's a need for an in depth analysis of her high school career. Just a brief overview (and I did retain some information in the beginning of the article).

@Ledeckyfan1: if you want to discuss it more, please leave a message here. I appreciate your edits and enthusiasm! Philipmj24 (talk) 19:26, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Philip, I could not agree more: when an elite swimmer reaches the level Ledecky has, listing every national record she sets is silly. She is a world-class athlete, and is the current world record-holder in three different events. Her world records should be individually listed at the end of the article, but her national records should be summarized. If Ledckyfan1 wants to see how we have handled an American world-class swimmer with several world records and over 60 national records to her credit, I refer him to the Tracy Caulkins article -- a "Good Article" per Wikipedia standards. it is important to remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a fansite, and by necessity we should be summarizing the most important information about notable persons, not attempting to chronicle every detail about them -- and for Ledecky, her national records have reached the level of minor details. This article says "During the summers prior to 2012, she swam for Palisades Swim Team in Bethesda", but the Palisades Swim and Tennis Club is in Cabin John, Maryland, see https://www.palisadespool.com/contact-us/

Please change "Bethesda" to "Cabin John".
