[edit]Could some one provide an image of the predator-proof fence. Chris H 18:51, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Size of Restoration area
[edit]Just made a change to this; The Sanctuary is often referred to as 252ha, which is the total area of land managed by KWST under our agreement with the Wellington City Council. The area actually enclosed by the fence is closer to 225ha, and restoration efforts are focussed in this marginally smaller area. Efforts outside the fence are mainly managed to reduce risks to the fence, and a small degree of weed control blacksand (talk) 07:54, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Dam
[edit]Can we include a picture of the dam? Bookscale (talk) 07:12, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- Which one, there are two :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 07:30, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- Upper Dam now included --Tony Wills (talk) 23:43, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
rename
[edit]The sanctuary has gone through one of those moneywasting I mean well thought out fits of rebranding and is now Zealandia, the Karori Wildlife Experience. There may be some people in Wellington who call it that without rolling their eyes or smirking. We should probably move this page even if it is dumb in order to reflect that. Sabine's Sunbird talk 08:21, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- The new name is just "Zealandia" the subtitle is not part of the name. Zealandia isn't exactly unique and there is already a disambig page, I can't see any great reason to rename the article. --Tony Wills (talk) 07:29, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- Then it ought to be Zelandia (wildlife sanctuary) or sumsuch. Sabine's Sunbird talk 07:22, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
The Sanctuary's siting in Google Earth
[edit]In Google Earth the Sanctuary is not sited at its co-ordinates but is to found in the western side of Wilton's Bush. I do not know how to comment on this in Google Earth as the reference is solely to the Wikipedia entry.Cogitatornz (talk) 20:36, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Coordinate error
[edit]{{geodata-check}}

- Write here
its pointing to the Otari Wilton Bsuh REserve at the moment
- new coordinates

Karori Wildlife Sanctuary → Zealandia (Wildlife Sanctuary) — As a volunteer IT assistant for Zealandia, I have been specifically requested to edit this page and change the name. The official rebranding has been complete since December 2008 (http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/744617). ChrisW-NZ (talk) 00:34, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

- Support as per WP:COMMONNAME Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:44, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support the move of the sanctuary to the more senible name of Karori Wildlife Sanctuary. Then we won't need to move the article, and we won't feel queasy when we hear the place's name! :) (oh, all right - move the article, then) Grutness...wha? 11:10, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support move to Zealandia (wildlife sanctuary) (with small w and s), however reluctantly. I cringe whenever I see the name, but that is what it's now called. --Avenue (talk) 14:31, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support but move to ZEALANDIA since upper case (which makes it a doubly awful name) is how the official name is presented. Having upper case means that "(wildlife sanctuary)" does not have to be part of the article name. This give it better compliance with WP:NAME. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 08:11, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- Mmmm. Good point. That would work. Grutness...wha? 22:52, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- I doubt that would be the name used here- We don't have an article called Disneyland: The happiest place on Earth! Zealandia (wildlife sanctuary) is probably more in keeping with Wikipedia:Article titles. But I agree it should probably be moved to reflect its official (if widely derided and generally awful) name. Sabine's Sunbird talk 00:47, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I agree, Zealandia (wildlife sanctuary) is more appropriate. I will adjust my change request. ChrisW-NZ (talk) 01:18, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- Whether we like the new name or not is generally irrelevant. If the place is now officially called Zealandia, then the article should be too. And yes, Zealandia (wildlife sanctuary) (with small W and S) would be the most appropriate place to move it. Grutness...wha? 11:10, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

See Also section
[edit]We had a 'see also' section pointing to related topics, predator proof fences, ecological islands and another similar project. The article is about a pioneering project that created the first artificial ecological island sanctuary in New Zealand, it seems to me that it should have a section with more about the development of these two concepts. But until the article is further expanded it would be helpful to have links to articles with some more general information about these. Whether that section is called 'see also' or 'further reading' or whatever is not important. The 'see also' section has been removed, it appears primarily on the basis that as a general rule it should not contain links that are already in the body of the article. If that is the only rationale, then I suggest another way is to simply remove those links and leave the 'see also' section. In the long run the article needs much work and expansion, but in the meantime a small section that emphasises these concepts, rather than having just another wikilink embedded in the text is useful content. --Tony Wills (talk) 21:35, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
- Given that the article has a large section on predator proof fences I really don't see the need to see also them. Maybe the main article template at the top of that section? Sabine's Sunbird talk 21:48, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, that sounds like an appropriate place. I suppose the article needs a further section about Zealandia's place in pioneering 'mainland island' sanctuaries in NZ (in the World?). --Tony Wills (talk) 22:29, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
