KarmaLoop.com → Karmaloop.com — The correct spelling of the site and related clothing store is a lower-case L. Relisted. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 14:15, 15 October 2010 (UTC) Annmayo076 (talk) 21:40, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose – Per the CamelCase point in WP:MOSTM, the capital "L" improves readability of the article title & also if you do go to karmaloop.com the logo has a capital "L". 「ɠu¹ɖяy」¤ • ¢ 05:33, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Some additional sources from books
[edit]Came across these while trying to establish notability for Karmaloop on the Requested Articles list; it is now a redirect to this page but thought I'd drop them here anyway if anyone wants to expand the article using published sources. There are many others on GoogleBooks.

- Struck out redirect bit above. Karmaloop was locked back in 2008 and a redirect cannot be created as I am not an administrator. This page will come up in search box anyway. Mabalu (talk) 16:07, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved per consensus below. was moved in two stages because of the way the admin carried out the G6 Tiggerjay (talk) 05:37, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
KarmaLoop.com → Karmaloop – The company is most often referred to by "Karmaloop" without the ".com", so moving it to this would best encompass the company as a whole. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:21, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Comment - I proposed this change and indeed, tried to move the page before discovering it had been locked five years ago. Of course I support this, but not sure if it's appropriate for me to vote on this. Mabalu (talk) 09:54, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'd say it's entirely appropriate and for what it's worth, I also support the move as the person who posted the discussion. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:57, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support. Name of company ... should be primary title. Steel1943 (talk) 05:29, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support per common English-like use in sources and MOS:TM. Dicklyon (talk) 05:51, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Comment cannot directly perform this move because the target name has been protected. Requesting admin assistance to unblock page to permit move. Tiggerjay (talk) 05:54, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
- Page was unprotected but improperly moved and retained camelcasing. Requesting G6 to return to non camel cased name, no longer necessary since it is not a URL, and is consistent with both the article and the website (aside from the artistic styling of the logo). Spam
[edit]I noticed earlier today Jrdnwho added a referral-based spam link a couple times (1, 2, 3). I removed it, but it prompted me to look back at the history of this article because I remembered seeing something similar before. Lo and behold it's been rampant. So as to draw attention to the issue, I'm compiled a list of IPs, usernames, and referral numbers/codes. The latter reveal some sock puppetry, but I'm mainly just hoping to keep spam out in the future. --— Rhododendrites talk | 05:48, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
The spam link was first added by Sako94: (diff). Later: (diff1, diff2). Each time using referral number 1983589. IPs adding the same referral number in the same way: 96.229.86.199 (diff) and 71.95.175.229 (diff)
Today was Jrdnwho (see above), using promo code 8577421. Those below all came between Sako94 and Jrdnwho (arranged alphanumerically):
- 66.75.192.71 (diff) - referral number 2126081. Using the same referral number was 12.131.32.2, who twice undid the removal of the spam (diff1, diff2) before adding his/her own referral id (diff3)
- 67.162.217.134 (diff) - using promo code QDUB07
- 67.171.250.44 (diff) - using promo code SDIDDY29
- 68.12.66.222 (diff1, diff2, diff3, diff4, diff5 just after unprotected) - using referral number 918405. Using the same referral number added by similar IP, 68.12.227.239 (diff)
- 68.109.89.16 (diff1, diff2) - using promo code TP024
- 69.11.41.65 (diff) - using promo code SWAGBOAT
- 70.179.121.46 (diff, and the less subtle diff) - using promo code GERARD40
- 72.218.85.31 (diff) - using promo code BRADNNADI92
- 76.196.72.40 (diff) - using referral number 2091993
- 86.173.233.29 (diff) - using promo code TRAPSTAR
- 97.104.26.10 (diff1 diff2) - referral number 1745955 (only time this number appeared)
- 99.224.85.53 (diff) - using promo code LOOPCODE
- 99.237.120.108 (diff1, diff2, diff3) - using promo code EXPLICIT
- 184.153.183.221 (diff) - using promo code APATHY
- 212.38.176.154 (diff) - using promo code DISCOUNTED
- 222.152.161.86 (diff) - using promo code KLCOUPONS
- Thgoogle (diff with a variety of spam, diff2 claiming to be an officer with the company) - using promo code KRL
- Youknowa (diff1, diff2) - using promo codes PERCENT and KOBE
The most prolific has been SwaggieBreh, using referral number 1849699 and promo code WIKI via the following:
- 68.121.164.155 (diff1, diff2)
- 68.122.6.132 (diff)
- 68.121.160.239 (diff)
- 68.124.22.24 (diff1, diff2)
- 108.199.2.131 (diff1, diff2 with a sneaky shortened url)
- 108.199.3.19 (diff)
- and SwaggieBreh (diff1, diff2, diff3, diff4 with edit summary 'grammatical error', diff5, diff6, diff7, diff8, diff9, diff10, diff11, diff12)
There were also a number of spam sites of the style "karmaloopcoupons.biz" or "karmaloop-codes.net" (I'm making these examples up, though). I didn't track those. --— Rhododendrites talk | 06:15, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks for reporting this. I agree that your solution (to replace the external link embedded in the article with just the domain name) is good (per WP:WTAF). I'll watch this and may be able to help make that stick. Johnuniq (talk) 08:48, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for sorting this all out - I have provided some glue to make it stick, and willing to expand that in the future. This is not good faith in any form, please block accounts (or get them blocked) immediately from now on. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:16, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Thanks. And for informational purposes to anyone else, the four registered users listed above were banned, and one unbanned on reasonable appeal. --— Rhododendrites talk | 16:09, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
Advert
[edit]"Top brands," "exclusive products," marketing terms, lists of brands carried, laundry list of press without actually using the refs, and general tone issues throughout. Tag most certainly belongs. --— Rhododendrites talk | 00:09, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- Not sure where you are reading "Top brands" but I went ahead and removed some of the promotional claims involving the word "exclusive." You don't think a list of the brands Karmaloop carries belongs on its personal page? Seems like that list should keep. Let's work towards removing this tag and improve the quality of the page. Thanks! Meatsgains (talk) 17:29, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
"Top brands" = "top streetwear brands." No, I don't think a list of brands is appropriate for an encyclopedia article (rather than a business profile or advertisement) unless its relationship with those brands receives significant coverage in reliable third party sources -- or if, as is the case here, the company distributes its own brands. I had some time to kill so went through it in the last hour or two, concluding with the removal of the advert tag. Issues addressed/changes made include:
- "Verge Culture" was used many times throughout the article as though it were a neutral description rather than a marketing buzzword
- tone issues and WP:PEACOCKING, e.g. "...Karmaloop's competitive advantage ... company's unique strategy...", "top streetwear brands and favorites from the site"
- use of "Karmaloop Rep Program" / "evangelists" in place of "affiliate marketing"
- Huge problem with WP:UNDUE coverage of unsourced or poorly sourced and thus non-notable lists and descriptions of the company's offerings, products, brands, promotions, etc. This consisted a large part of the article.
- An extraordinary amount of unreliable sources. Primary sources and press releases, links to other Wikipedia pages, YouTube videos....
- I compressed several of the sections into "Marketing profile." It seems like a lot of what Karmaloop is known for is its approach to marketing and promotion -- including a number of innovative approaches that have proven quite effective. I'm not certain "Marketing profile" is the best way to word it , but generally speaking the individual promotions are not notable enough to have their own sections.
- The biggest removal of content was the section that was called "Sites." There were almost no reliable sources throughout its subsections. Undue/not notable. The other sites are mentioned in the article already; more sources are needed to merit separate sections.
- The "Press" section was purely promotional. A list of publications that have mentioned the company with absolutely no context beyond that. Nonetheless, I'm copying it to the hatted section below if anyone wants to use the sources in the article itself (rather than as part of the article).

Karmaloop has been featured in publications and on sites such as Entrepreneur,[1] USA Today,[2] The Boston Globe[3] Business Week,[4] Boston Business Journal,[5][6] Boston Magazine,[7] MTV,[8][9] Complex,[10] Vibe,[11] Nylon Magazine,[12] INC.,[13] Hypebeast,[14] Reuters,[15] and more. Karmaloop was ranked number 359 on trade magazine Internet Retailer's "2008 Top 500 Guide".[2] |
- happy to talk about any of the specifics. It's no longer deserving of an advert tag (at least I can't imagine anyone would say so), but there are many areas it could be improved -- including areas that could be elaborated upon. If I have time later I'll go look for some reliable sources to try to fill some of the void left by the removal of so many unreliable ones (which is visually kind of a harsh difference, I recognize).
