Does Wikipedia have a policy on names, I heavily edited this article having found it on 'Clean Up' If he was christened Karel should he not be known on Wikipedia by that name? Also the page would be better just known as 'Count Kinsky', more people would find it, as this is how he was known and is referred to the racing world, (the only world in which he was famous), there seems to have been several other counts in the family worthy of a small mention. These could be included, aso the article would be less stubby. If so how does one change the page name? Giano 07:13, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC) 18:45, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Yes, we have many policies on names, some of them contradictory. You will find no shortage of opinion at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles) and its associated talk page. In general names are translated into English: exceptions are made where this would be ridiculous. The underlying rule should be that an article resides under the most common name, with redirects from any other names. To change the name of this article, you should click on the "Move" tab (above the article, not above this talk page) and move the article and its talk page. Type carefully!<g>. What move really does is rename the page and creates another page, a redirect, at the old title. So what you want to do is move Count Charles Andreas Kinsky to Count Kinsky. - Nunh-huh 07:22, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC) (P.S. But you won't be able to do this because there's already an article there! The solution would be to make the article at Count Kinsky a disambiguation page, listing all the various Counts Kinskey we have articles on...) -- Nunh-huh 07:29, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for that, Count Kinsky has had to be tidied too. There seems now to be a whole jar of Kinskys all listed as needing attention. The whole stubby lot want uniting together, in the meantime I will just tidy and link them to reach other. Giano 08:55, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I have been editing the Kinsky's for a couple of days and think this page should be moved to Count Karel Andreas Kinsky, as it seems daft to change Karel to Charles, not change Andreas to Andrew and so on. Karel was the name he was known by, I will ammend all text accordingly. So if anybody objects to a move please let me know soon Giano 21:30, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
No objections here. Were his parents Oktavian Joseph Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau (1813-1879) & Agnes Schaffgotsch genannt Semperfrei von und zu Kynast und Greiffenstein (1810-1888)? Empress Sisi of Austria's visit to England certainly sounds interesting...she seems to have been rather busy with Count Kinsky and Bay Middleton.. - Nunh-huh 21:42, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Kinsky & Winnie

[edit]

William Manchester notes in

The Last Lion biography of Winston Spencer Churchill that Kinsky was a sort of stepfather to Winston and Jack Churchill. He took WSC to meet Kaiser Wilhelm II and may have been largely responsible for the paternalistic thoughts WSC had about Colonials from Africa and India.

Let me know what you think. V. Joe (talk) 01:58, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
