[edit]For an encyclopedia entry regarding a mayor, I feel like I learned an undue amount about fire safety. Is this where this discussion belongs? This guy has been mayor since 1975. That's a long run. Surely there must be more to say about him than the diameter of fire hoses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.120.68.106 (talk) 04:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes, there is something deeply wrong with this entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.22.62.201 (talk) 13:36, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Information re: Sofa Super Store fire
[edit]This information was removed and then re-added. I believe it is more appropriate for this to be in the Charleston Sofa Super Store fire article. In fact, it already is. The only portion that could possibly be relevant here would be his defense of the fire chief. Cjmclark (Contact) 18:50, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- I have removed the material in question and left a note at CharlestonFL's talk page asking for sourced material that is directly relevant to this article. Cjmclark (Contact) 19:01, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Length of service as Mayor
[edit]As of February 2013, Riley is not the longest serving mayor. Leonard Scarcella of Stafford, Texas has served longer. - ¢Spender1983 (talk) 03:00, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
Home Address Disclosure
[edit]I noticed that this article contains a photo of Riley's home with a disclosure of his home address in the caption, and I would question whether it is appropriate under applicable policies and guidelines to disclose the private residence address of a living person on Wikipedia. Any assistance from my fellow Wikipedians in resolving this issue would be most appreciated. --TommyBoy (talk) 22:58, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think Wikipedia guidelines specifically prohibit it; presumably the location of his house is publicly available information. If there's some reason to think it isn't, then yes, we can remove it as an invasion of privacy. But we don't seem to have had any complaints from Riley so far (perhaps he's aware of the Streisand effect). Robofish (talk) 20:55, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- If the address disclosed is of an "official residence" akin to the White House or the South Carolina Governor's Mansion, I don't see a problem, but if the address is of Riley's private residence, I don't think it would be appropriate to disclose that kind of information about a living person on Wikipedia even if they or their representatives don't complain. --TommyBoy (talk) 00:34, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- User:209.6.114.98 has removed the address from the photo caption, but questioned in the edit summary whether the photo file should be deleted because the address is still disclosed there citing WP:BLPPRIVACY as the rationale.--TommyBoy (talk) 23:24, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- Considering that it has been nearly eighteen months since I first raised this question, Riley has been succeeded as Mayor by John Tecklenburg within the last week, and that I have thus far found no other precedent for disclosure of a living person's private residence address on Wikipedia, I would like to know if my fellow Wikipedians had any further thoughts regarding my question so we can reach a decision on whether or not the photo should continue to be included in this article.--TommyBoy (talk) 04:28, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
