Rewrite

[edit]

I propose to clean up this page as it is somewhat of a mish-mash.. but I'm not sure how to procede, I'm going to put Deus Ex Machinae and the JnG soundtracks on different pages but what about the 'promo' and additional songs? --Rehevkor 02:14, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Free songs can probably stay here. The JnG soundtrack should probably be integrated into the Jets'n'Guns page.--DooMDrat 14:07, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Genre

[edit]

Definitely more 'power metal' than 'melodic hard rock' - changed accordingly.

Sorry, but MaSu are not power metal in any way, shape or form. The closest they've come to the description is "I Turn to You", and that was a cover. "Alternative metal" would be a better classification.
I highly recommend that you listen to actual power metal bands such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Rhapsody, Running Wild, DragonForce and Sabaton before you make such a classification to any metal band that has melodies and clean singing in their music. — Kuuenbu 19:14, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I agree with you.. but what the hell. Rehevkor 12:23, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the "SID Metal" tab belongs there, exactly. It's not even a genre, really. I mean, you don't see "Opera Metal" on Nightwish's page or "Hollywood Metal" on Rhapsody's. Power metal might be more appropriate. I don't really know, though. Indy Aaron 23:58, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Their website seems to be down, but not the forums. 82.154.70.225 10:41, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think Their genre should be SID metal. If a band creates their own genre and its music is hard to fit in any other genre it should be kept--Slogankid 15:56, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's not that hard to fit them into other genres. They fit into Power Metal and Bitpop. I vote that we change SID Metal to Power Metal and Bitpop in the infobox, but keep the "Self-defined as SID Metal" bit in the article itself. I shall do this. If I'm out of line, feel free to revert. Waracle 03:12, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
They seem way more like cyberpunk than anything else. eXcapiZm 00.43, 28 January 2007
Cyberpunk is a genre in literature, not music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.208.148.119 (talk) 14:37, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I vote for SID metal. They define themselves as it, and i'm all for creating new genres. 98.204.185.240 (talk) 02:34, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Joshizzle[reply]

TTLG & Rise

[edit]

Please people, TTLG and Rise are not 'promo' tracks, they're album tracks. The songs listed on the main page are the promo tracks. Not album tracks. Rehevkor 22:56, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounce

[edit]

i'd like to know how to pronounce Machinae Supremacy. can anyone add this, please?

( Call for edit ) The response given on the entry page to this question is incorrect. IMHO the word is spoken akin to 'Mackeenee'. Reason: Machinae is a latin plural of Machina (EN: Machine) so follows the same end sound as for example; Aortae, Larvae, Tesserae. Thanks! Gigapenguin.

The band always said it was pronounced like "machine".. ¬rehevkor¬ 15:23, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can u show me where it says that. Machinae is pronounced like Gigapenguin said. It IS the plural of Machina and pronounced mac-in-aye if any one speaks Greek this is how the last syllable would be pronounced "αι" as in αρχαιοςπτερυξ Archaeopteryx --Slogankid 08:38, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Erm.. there's a citation right there. ¬rehevkor¬ 14:48, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yeah i saw. I swear i put sumthing about realising i was wrong but not admiting it...--Slogankid 19:34, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redeemer (album) deletion

[edit]

Seems someone was nice enough to delete Redeemer (album) as spam. Please don't try re-creating it just yet, trying to get it undeleted.

Whoever deleted it is an idiot. There IS a redeemer album out, the underground edition, and as such there SHOULD be a page about it

It's still going strong.. User talk:Eagle 101#Redeemer (album) ¬rehevkor¬ 14:09, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated it for undeletion, as the mod who deleted it refused/ignored my request to undelete. Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2006 November 9#Redeemer .28album.29 ¬rehevkor¬ 01:54, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inja & Hubnester Indistries

[edit]

I created a pages for Inja, I'm not sure I'm familiar enough with the band to write much about them, so if anyone else can expand on the article that'd be great. Also created one for Hubnester Industries, anyone who can add to it please feel free, I especially want to add to the project list.

Merge

[edit]

I suggest a merge of Robert Stjärnström, Jonas Rörling and Andreas Gerdin into this article. There's not much info that can't be on the Machinae Supremacy page. Maybe in the future they can be given sperate pages but for now it'd be easier to put it on a single page. User:Rehevkor/Machinae Supremacy is where I have a work in progress of what will appear on the main page. Comments/objections? Rehevkor 23:50, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A clean-up

[edit]

This page needs a small clean-up. You have the "webography" (if it has its own article, is there any need of posting the same content on the main page?), and the "members" section has no need for images of the band members. Slayer425 00:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If there're parts of the article you don't like, then feel free to edit it as such.Rehevkor 01:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Play! tense

[edit]

The paragraph about the Play! concert is in future tense, even though the date has passed. It should be changed to past tense. Meneth 09:30, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nomination

[edit]

I feel the article has reached a point were is can be considered for GA status, I've worked very hard on it and it should now be developed enough to fit the criteria. Rehevkor 21:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I began checking the references - they seem to contradict - An Interview with Machinae Supremacy - Remix64 reference says the band used FLAK for political songs, so that Machinae Supremacy could stay neutral. Then the next reference which is from a Official Machinae Supremacy Forum says Flak did influence Machinae Supremacy songs. Which reference is correct? I don't know if a forum is valid as a reference citation. I was expecting the 5th reference named FLAK to state / support the statement about the band members, but rather it just contained some song lyrics of FLAK. Can this sentence In their music they attempted to carry a vibe of self-confidence, enlightenment and encouragement for people to take control of their own lives be re-worded or else directly quote from the third reference titled: Machinae Supremacy - About. That is as far as I got on reference checking. As far as the other GA criteria: well written-OK; (MoS)- OK; broad in its coverage - need another opinion on this aspect; neutral point of view policy-OK; stable-OK; images-OKSriMesh | talk 04:58, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]

Overall a decent article, but a few major issues and a few lesser ones forced me to fail its GA nomination, as detailed below:

  • The biggest problem with the article are the sources of information. Nearly every one of them fails WP:V, WP:RS, etc. In fact, there's only about 3-4 of the citations that are reliable, the main problem being that most sources are from the band itself.
  • The Fair Use template of Image:Machinae Supremacy.png is incomplete. Not all the fields have been filed out, and the source field should actually provide a link.
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:04, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Image no longer exists. Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The page for the first audio samples needs to be reworked. Since it was distributed freely, I don't think fair-use applies. So replace the Fair-use rationale/tag with something more appropriate.
  • Citations should come immediately after punctuation without a space. This.[1] Not this. [2]
Done Should have got them all. Rehevkor (talk) 21:41, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bolding the band's name in the first sentence of the Band history section is unnecessary.
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "but it was only a few months later the band found the path they wanted to follow." What the heck does that mean?
Done Wikiblame was unable to find any entry containing this, and the article does not contain this text. Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "so instead of sending demos to record labels they sent the songs straight to the audience." is worded very unencyclopedically.
Done I think.. removed most of the offending section. Rehevkor (talk) 16:39, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Numbers below 10 should be spelled out. "Nine" not "9."
 Done Bocom (talk) 20:39, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Per WP:EL, external links within the prose should be avoided (i.e. "In 2001 machinae.2y.net was launched")
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • ". In 2001 machinae.2y.net was launched, boasting around 9 songs, the band used the free audio codec Ogg Vorbis, as well as MP3, to distribute them." Is a run-on sentence and is a mess gramatically.
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Despite being the band's first songs, the recordings were high quality and helped the band prove themselves to their early fans." Is an opinion. This sentence should be taken out completely.
 Done Was removed on 18 November 2007. Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Great Giana Sisters" should be italicized when referring to the original videogame (same with "Jets'n'Guns"), and in quotations when referring to the song. Loot Burn Rape Kill Repeat and Multiball are both songs right? So they should be in quotes rather than italicized. The same rules apply to "Metallica's's One during a Guitar Hero segment."
Done Not by me though. Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The two audio samples are formatted a little weird. They should ideally be in a box off to the side, rather than break up the prose. Check out the audio samples for The Smashing Pumpkins for a good example.
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The blockquote for the FLAK thing is completely unnecessary. Incorporate it into the prose like any other quote and move the citation to the end of the quote, not mid-sentence. Same thing with "Due to different priorities, Johan Palovaara is now leaving the band to pursue other ambitions."
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:04, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The album was very well received by fans and the first print of 1000 copies sold out quickly" is POV and should ideally be removed or at least cited.
 Done Removed on 18 November 2007. Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Shortly after the release of Deus Ex Machinae 2.0" huh? 2.0?
Done Reworded and elaborated. Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "the band were stuck without a record label" is unencyclopedic.
 Done I think.. Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Same with "That did not mean Machinae Supremacy were not busy"
 Done Was removed on 18 November 2007. Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "and was very well received." is opinion and should be removed.
 Done Supertanno (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't link to FLAK, since it just redirects to the same page.
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The External links section is a bit too big. Narrow it down to 3-5 good resources.
 Done Rehevkor (talk) 16:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overall, my main concern is with the sources of information. If the band's official website is the only source for information about the band, I would predict that it will be impossible to write a GA article for the band. If 3rd party information does exist, I would highly recommend replacing the current sources with those. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the article or my review, feel free to drop my a line on my Talk Page. Drewcifer (talk) 10:11, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Webography by "compilation" or year

[edit]

User:DestinyZero recently added the webography tracks in their new compilation format, I feel having all the tracks listed twice is rather pointless and just clogs the article. For now I have listed the compilation under the "Other releases" section, but perhaps if we get a consensus we could replace the by year list with a compilation list. However, I feel the year list should stay as it's basically more informative to see the release years rather than the rather arbitrary compilation list. Rehevkor (talk) 13:44, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input people. ;) I found another solution! Rehevkor (talk) 23:54, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FLAK Redirect

[edit]

FLAK is an anti-aircraft gun. I have fixed the redirect to point to the correct page instead of this obscure band. If you disagree, please create a disambiguation page. -- Nils —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.152.163.37 (talk) 10:41, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem here, suppose the redirect absent mindedly got sent here when the FLAK article was deleted. Rehevkor 15:21, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fandom

[edit]

MaSu do have quite a large fandom ("Machinae Supremacists"). Although it is nowhere near important enough to require a page of its own, would the MaSu fandom need a section within this page? DotKuro (talk) 16:29, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"End of the World" section

[edit]

Considering that the new album has been out for three months now, I think it deserves a section of its own on the article. Currently, it's still under the Overworld heading, and lacking information. Perhaps the album's history would make a good starting point? Mainframe004 (talk) 07:37, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
