more info

[edit]

We need more information about his background. There is room for more information at every level, but I think it would be nice to see more information about his early life. He was a farm boy. Yet he went on to be a great opera and concert singer. So many people see that as elitist. So very wrong of them. That simple beginnings can appreciate the great music. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.71.8.59 (talk) 03:20, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don Jose

[edit]

I just had the privilege of watching the 1967 movie of Bizet's Carmen with conductor Herbert von Karajan, soprano Grace Bumbry. Vickers' role was Don Jose. Is there a section for movies that might find its way into this article?--User:Brenont (talk) 00:59, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1988

[edit]

There is what seems a good brief profile in the March 2000 BBC Music Magazine (pp.45–46, written by Jeannie Williams) which claims that his last singing (narration not included...) performances (intended to be final, though he may have returned since 2000-03) were in May 1988 in Kitchener, Ontario in Parsifal. Is this relevant and known to be the case? (Hrm. In any event at the end it says it's an excerpt from Jon Vickers: A Hero's Life, so it's not an independent bit of reporting, just an excerpt from that book, then, which I am guessing- will check our article again- is one of our sources... ah. No, just mentioned as possible further reading, not yet used as a source.) Schissel | Sound the Note! 17:22, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pappano's Classical Voices

[edit]

This review of the different voices is still available on iPlayer (for UK TV licence payers). He was shown in archive footage in the program about Tenors, and because of that I looked at this page just a few days ago (prior to which I was even unaware of the word heldentenor). And now he has passed away in the same week. RIP Silas Maxfield (talk) 21:11, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Samson is an oratorio, not an opera

[edit]

"Samson in both Handel's opera"

As far as I am informed, Handel's Samson is not an "opera", it is an oratorio. --Alf.68 09:30, 18 July 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alf.68 (talkcontribs)
