I've been asked by Ambassador John Loeb to make updates to several sections of his Wikipedia page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Langeloth_Loeb,_Jr.
I am new to Wikipedia and I want to ask your advice on how best to make the updates - I.e. Should I make them directly to the page all at once, section by section, or otherwise. They are integrated into several different paragraphs and are not so easy to describe/propose individually on this Talk page so I'm leaning toward making them directly on the Wikipedia page, itself, but wanted to check with you, the more seasoned editors.
Thanks in advance for your help with this.

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
I User:mybestwords and my colleague, User:Conquestde are paid editors for the John_Langeloth_Loeb_Jr. page. We are new to Wikipedia and we made several edits directly on this page. Today, the edits we made were reversed, not necessarily because the edits were not worthy but because we didn't submit Edit Requests on this Talk page to solicit help from the Wikipedia editors to update this page.
I would like to request that the edits that were undone with the update below, be restored to this page, as shown on the link below:

Please let me know if you are able to help us with this task and how we should proceed.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Not done Please follow policy. Propose each edit one at a time. Use form "please change (second sentence in lede, for example) from x to y, supporting your request with formatted citations from reliable independent sources. Also be advised, with the exception of reverting obviously unambiguous vandalism, you are not allowed to edit the article directly ever. Further, in discussions on the talk page, only one of you may participate. For both of you to participate would be a violation of WP:MEAT. Any variance from this and I'll be requesting blocks for both of you. John from Idegon (talk) 11:21, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Request for Help in updating article to merit removing the "written like a resume" notice

Since the time this notice has been added, sections of the article have been removed (by various editors) and I have several Edit Requests queued up that include additional citations for existing content and requests to add new content along with citations.
I would like any advice you have regarding what further actions I should take to facilitate the removal of the "written like a resume" notice.

- I'm not sure if this is where and how I should reply. Please advise the procedure if not.
- My thoughts here are similar to my comment regarding the citations for the "The institute's first project was to design, build and operate the Loeb Visitors Center on the campus of the Touro Synagogue National Historic Site in Newport, Rhode Island." and your comment about this being better placed in the Touro Synagogue article. At first glance it may appear that the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom and the Loeb Visitors Center are part of the Touro Synagogue but they are both separate entities from Touro Synagogue. You can learn more about the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom at http://www.gwirf.org and the Loeb Visitors Center at http://www.loebvisitors.org. The educational activities around religious freedom that have been achieved by the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom are inspired by George Washington's Letter to the Jewish congregation at Touro Synagogue in 1790 but the work by GWIRF today is very separate from Touro Synagogue in actuality. I welcome your thoughts. Mybestwords (talk) 15:35, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- These are indeed important historical events and objects which deserve space on Wikipedia for their descriptions. However, I don't believe that the Ambassador's article is the most representational forum for that information. To discuss GWIRF is to discuss its purpose: the laudable goals of promoting the understanding of religious freedom and separation of church and state. Those ideas are best communicated through GWIRF's own web pages, or if placed on Wikipedia, within an article expressly concerning the Institute itself. The WP:AFC process is available for this endeavor. Regards, Spintendo 20:14, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input on this. I see what you mean now. What I would like to do is draft a few sentences that focus specifically on how John L. Loeb Jr. has personally contributed to GWIRF and the Loeb Visitors Center as these are significant achievements that merit being included on Loeb's own Wikipedia page, if possible. It's in my court at the moment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mybestwords (talk • contribs) 21:42, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Please replace the “George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom” heading and paragraph below it with the following headers, paragraphs, and the best citation for each paragraph. (your choice) The idea, per guidance from Spintendo, is to have the focus of this section be more about what Loeb accomplished vs. what GWIRF accomplished. Loeb founded the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom (GWIRF) in 2009 with the goal of raising people’ awareness about the roots of religious freedom and the separation of church and state in the United States and the importance of these principles. Edit Request: Please restore the “Loeb Institute” section and update “Loeb Institute” section header below “George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom” paragraph to “Loeb Visitors Center”
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Please update the heading on the section below the “George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom” section from “Loeb Institute” to “Loeb Visitors Center”.
Please note: The “Loeb Visitors Center” and the “Loeb Institute” are different. The Loeb Visitors Center is a building housing educational exhibits in Newport, RI that Loeb spearheaded and funded. The Loeb Institute is a program based at George Washington University that was inspired by Loeb’s interest in the study of the principles of religious freedom and was created thanks to his $2.5 million donation.
With this in mind, after the paragraph that I'm suggesting should have the heading "Loeb Visitors Center" (instead of "Loeb Institute"), please restore some form of the paragraph with heading “Loeb Institute” that was removed. We can rephrase the original paragraph to focus on Loeb’s contribution. Suggesting the following.
Loeb Institute
In 2016, Loeb, through the John L. Loeb Jr. Foundation and the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom, donated $2.5 million to establish the John L. Loeb Jr. Institute for Religious Freedom at George Washington University.[1] The institute operates within the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.[2] Some of the academic resources and relationships that GWIRF created with its civic education partners will be part of the institute. The Loeb Institute will manage academic, curricular and co-curricular programs, publications, collaborations and activities with organizations, scholars, students, educators and the public engaged in the mission of the Loeb Institute. It will continue the ambassadorial outreach program that GWIRF began.

To that end, we have contacted the editor, User:Ɱ, who posted the “like resume” box on our site back in November 2016 to request advice on additional updates, if any, that need to be made to merit removing this box and to remove the "like resum" box if everything looks ok as-is. Please review our current page which has been extensively updated since November 2016 to see if any additional updates are necessary to merit removing the “like resume” box at the top. If yes, please let us know what updates are needed and any pages that are good examples of Wikipedia pages of living persons that we can model our page after. If we already merit the “like resume” box being removed, please remove it.
Thank you!

I think there have been some good changes since I added that template, yet I feel it still applies. The lead, for one, seems a little too much like a list of accomplishments. It could better read:
- John Langeloth Loeb Jr. (born May 2, 1930) is an American businessman, philanthropist, former United States Ambassador to Denmark, and former Delegate to the United Nations. He is an advocate for religious freedom and separation of church and state, having founded the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom in 2009. Loeb also founded and owns the vineyards of Sonoma-Loeb Wines, a winery in Sonoma County, California. Loeb has sponsored publications and exhibitions on early American genealogy, family histories, and Danish art.[citation needed] Loeb continues to serve as chairman of the George Washington Institute.
I cut out plenty of less-relevant muddling details and reorganized the winery info for what's currently important. As well, I believe the "name legacy"-type details should be left in a legacy section, not the lead. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 15:33, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Close paraphrasing maintenance template
The close paraphrasing template has been added to the "Early life" section. This section contains text which is insufficiently paraphrased from the source material, which is copyrighted. A list of that text may be viewed here. An explanatory supplement to Wikipedia's copyright violation policy may be found at WP:PARAPHRASE. This text ought to be rewritten sufficiently using an editor's own words and phrasing before the template is removed. Spintendo 20:16, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Spintendo - thanks for checking in about the paraphrasing in the "Early Life" section. The copyrighted material is on Ambassador Loeb's personal website http://www.ambassadorloeb.com and the copyright notice is "Copyright © 2013 John L. Loeb, Jr., All rights reserved" which is John Loeb Jr., himself. Might this make it okay for us to include this text on John Loeb Jr's Wikipedia page? I will rephrase this text in an subsequent Edit Request but do let me know what you think about this case with the copyright from John Loeb Jr. himself. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mybestwords (talk • contribs) 04:10, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

This is an edit request to remove the “like a resume” notice at the top of the page.
We have requested many edits to this page to make it neutral and encyclopedic and have received help from several volunteer editors to make it so.
If our page does not yet merit removing the “like a resume” notice, please specify what additional updates need to be made to merit this and, if possible, provide us with an example of a page that we can model our page after.

Edit Request: Please replace the “Early Life” paragraphs and remove “close paraphrasing” notice
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Please replace the first two paragraphs in the “Early Life” section with the following paragraphs and remove the “close paraphrasing” notice
Loeb was born on May 2, 1930 in New York City. His parents were businessman John Langeloth Loeb Sr. (1902–1996) and Frances Lehman (1906–1996). Loeb's father and his paternal grandfather, Carl M. Loeb (1875–1955), were founders of Loeb, Rhoades & Co.. Loeb's mother was a granddaughter of Mayer Lehman (1830–1897), one of the three founders of Lehman Brothers. Loeb is the grandson of Arthur Lehman (Senior Partner at Lehman Brothers and founding president of Lehman Brothers) and Adele Lewisohn Lehman. He is a great-grandson of Adolph Lewisohn and grand-nephew of former New York Governor and U. S. Senator Herbert H. Lehman.[1]
Loeb and his father share the middle name Langeloth in honor of family friend and businessman John Jacob Langeloth (1852–1914).[2]
NOTE: If I need to modify this text even more, let me know. Much of it is just the lineage and dates of birth and death. It’s hard to vary this very much. I’m trying my best.

Partially implemented Two changes to Ɱ's paragraph were made:
- Information on the subject's wineries was omitted.
- Information on the subject's publications was omitted. Per MOS:CITELEAD, the presence of citations in the introduction is neither required in every article nor prohibited in any article. Thus, the necessity for citations in a lead should be determined on a case-by-case basis by editorial consensus. Two out of three of the references provided for this claim were to the subject's own websites. As this would be considered a controversial subject, inclusion of this information would require many more citations than the ones provided. (See also this COI edit request).
The rest of the paragraph was implemented. Spintendo 21:19, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

ISBN: 978-0982203200
(2) One of the following (please choose the best one) for the book “The Ambassador John L. Loeb Jr. Danish Art Collection” for which Loeb wrote the foreword and for which Loeb is the publisher:

Declined As mentioned in a prior edit request, this information was not included in the lead. Two of the three references provided were to the subject's own websites. Since the inclusion of this particular information would be considered a controversial subject, inclusion of it would require many more citations than the ones provided here. Declined As mentioned in a prior edit request, this information was not included in the lead. In an article predominantly about the subject's philanthropy and humanitarianism, the mentioning of the subject's wine estate seems out of place, and might be seen as promotional in nature. I'm afraid this claim, if it were to belong in the article, should be backed by references from secondary sources who mention it in a substantial way. Spintendo 21:19, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
