[edit]I significantly expanded some related articles, but had problems using ancestry.com to examine possible slaveholdings in the 1850s and 1860s. I don't have time to prepare an article about his father, who seems to have owned slaved in the 1810 and 1830 censuses, but only had a single free colored person in his household in 1820, and two slaves along with 2 free colored persons in his household (as well as 50 students (!) 1840. Part of the problem might be the common name, or that Shenandoah County had three different prominent Allen families.
