Flogging?

[edit]

I can find no reference to the flogging of Fryer in the primary sources. It would seem unlikely in any case - as he was a warrant, not to say a wardroom, officer and should have been immune from such a punishment. If it had happened, one would expect it to be referred to in such places as the Bounty Saga Chronology

I have marked it as "Citation needed" and think the comment should be removed to this page unless a source can be supplied. --Jmrichardson 14:13, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion

[edit]

That Fryer received no promotions after the Mutiny is incorrect. He rose to the rank of Post Captain and served as Commander of at least 3 ships: HMS Serapis, 1801, HMS William, 1804, and HMS Abundance, 1806. James Galloway 13:44, 11 September 2007 (UTC) The above statement is incorrect. After further research and some help from a student of Royal Navy history, we have discovered Fryer on the Navy List for 1805 as still a Master. He was Commander of the above ships, but the title was a courtesy. James Galloway (talk) 15:53, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
