LGBT cite
[edit]An editor recently removed the "LGBT people from the United States" cat from this article. I can see why, since the article text no longer refers to Berry's sexual orientation: it had been mentioned when he was a candidate for secretary of the interior, since he would have been the first openly gay person to hold such a senior role, but since he didn't get the post that information was removed. Nonetheless, if anyone needs references for this, see e.g.:
- Eleveld, Kerry (16 December 2008). "LGBT Leaders Lobby for Openly Gay Appointees". The Advocate. Retrieved 18 December 2008.

Quotations by Director John Berry
[edit]“We’ll get the federal system off of its island of KSAs, and onto the résumé base that the rest of the country is on,” Berry said. Federal job applicants long have complained that KSAs are cumbersome and inflexible.
“This is pretty common-sense stuff,” Berry said. “It kind of boggles my mind that it hasn’t been done 50 years before. We’re going to get it done.”
“Really, the nut of it is, if we can define results that flow from your strategic plan all the way down to employee performance — what are the results and outcomes, rather than the processes and inputs — it will be a dramatic shift,” Berry said.
“I want to make it easier to get rid of dead wood,” Berry said. “We all know that we have black holes in our agencies that suck down on energy.”
Berry joked the federal government was too much like Lake Wobegon from the famous radio show “A Prairie Home Companion,” where “all the children are above average.” Berry said one option could be limiting the number of employees within a department who receive exceptional ratings.

I have saved a pdf of the page.
Any Wikipedia editor who would like to add these quotes to the article, please do so. If no one objects, I will eventually return and do it myself. I am especially keen on the 'dead wood' quote. --Sponsion (talk) 18:01, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- When all these quotes are added just like they are the article will be less encyclopedic. There needs to be context relying on reported facts from reliable sources and the article must not overemphasize unnecessary detail of personal opinions. For quotes, there is Wikiquote. Residence
[edit]At present (September 2013), the article quite rightly suggests that Berry lives in Washington DC. I've seen nothing to suggest that he's arrived in Australia (something that will likely be covered in the media when it happens) and so I haven't changed his residency from DC to the Embassy of the United States, Canberra. I'll update it as soon as I see corresponding coverage. Cheers, Stalwart111 06:39, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
