[edit]there seems to be somethign wrong with this article it has his place of birth as in newfoundland, yet vetern affairs has it as glace bay http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/sub.cfm?source=collections/virtualmem/Detail&casualty=260164
also most of the citations used for this article are dead links.
That's because VAC (Veterans Affairs Canada) is going by Croak's Attestation Paper [1], on which he stated POB as "Glace Bay, CB" or Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Wikig39 (talk) 17:22, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Croak or Croke???
[edit]Consistancy, people! It's fine and dandy to start the article with "Croak" and keep it all the way until an explanation appears about the spelling:
The Newfoundland spelling of the name is "Croke," and that is also how it appears on Pvt. Croak's birth certificate. However, Pvt. Croak enlisted with this spelling, which remains on many of his official documents.
But then to switch back to "Croke" at the end...tsk tsk:
The medal
[edit]John Bernard Croke's medals are held by The Army Museum. The Army Museum is located on the second floor of the Cavalier Block in the Halifax Citadel Defence Complex, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Ergo, to be switched. Wikig39 (talk) 17:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Birthplace vs. home
[edit]Is there some reason that Croak is so strongly associated with Newfoundland in the article? The article clearly states that he moved to Nova Scotia at two years of age, and Glace Bay was likely the only home he ever knew. His own Attestation Paper (linked above) implies as much. Yet the article has been edited to show that he is "from" Newfoundland, and he is associated with a few categories which say the same. In my opinion, this is not accurate and should be changed. - No replies, so I'm changing it. If there is solid reasoning for having him so connected to Newfoundland in the article, please give us an outline. JimboM32 (talk) 00:42, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
