article facts
[edit]The Louisville Courier-Journal is cited without an accessible link to statements that Joe Cotton did not die in the accident. This contradicts that same newspaper's 2015 story titled "Kentucky Derby countdown | Joe Cotton, 1885" which says in a racing accident in his 7-year-old season he suffered a fatal leg fracture. - I thought so too, but he appears in every edition of the American Stud Book until 1902, long after his reported death, and Frank Ware did mention seeing him and his shoulder being dislocated (which can look like a fracture). I'm not too surprised that the articles contradict, as the author probably just repeated what was in the NYT article. Froggerlaura ribbit 03:33, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
