Joanne CalderwoodJoanne Wood – It's exactly the same situation as Nina Nunes. The fighter got married and decided to change her maiden name, effetive of her last fight as the UFC has billed her as such, and several other sources including Sherdog and ESPN go by her new name. User:EvertonFC19 made a move that was reverted by User:Cassiopeia, using the same reasons she used last time (Even though they don't make sense). Obviously it looks like the same path will be taken again. Please let's not make a big deal. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 20:28, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - Pretty much all sources, including the literal UFC itself, and all major MMA media, have referred to her with her last name Wood since her last fight. WP:COMMON_NAME clearly states that it generally should be "determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources". This is indisputably true; I don't understand why this was reversed. EvertonFC19talk 02:04, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Subject has been known and cited as Carderwood. Just because she was just married and only last week her new name was change that need to be said Wikipedia is NOT news but enclyopedia and Wikipedia use WP:COMMON NAME - clearly states that it generally should be "determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources" for subject name which Carderwood was cited for the last 9 years. I am not oppose to name change but more source need to be provided (not only one fight as compared to last 9 years). Editors, especially those who have edited for long time, pls understand, Wikipedia is not news and Nunes article discussion was closed by someone what edited less than 250 edits in 9 years which I dont think the editor know the guidelines well. Pls wait until more source in the future to have the new name cited then name changed requested.04:00, 26 November 2021 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Cassiopeia (talkcontribs)
Jesus... You did the same thing last time and hasn't learned. I'll make it easier for those who didn't look there and I'll paste some of the same parts that you still ignore (with updates to this situation).
- WP:COMMONNAME states “(Wikipedia) generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources).” Her Instagram, her UFC.com profile, and her Sherdog - which also has a "formerly known as Joanne Calderwood" section - all use Wood, not to mention several other articles you can find through Google or videos on Youtube. That meets the requirements in COMMONNAME as that is the definition of “significant majority of independent reliable sources” because all of those sources were from when the news broke today she started using “Wood”, and likely more sources will reflect the change now. Doesn’t get much more reliable than directly from the UFC and her social media.
- It may be instructive to compare this nomination to Talk:Vasyl Ivanchuk#Requested move 18 April 2020 in which the convincing argument for the Chess Grandmaster's name change rested with his listing in the key database for FIDE, the International Chess Federation. In the same manner, Nina Nunes' listing in the key databases — Sherdog and UFC — should be considered as definitive.
We could go on and on with other sections of the previous move discussion, but it's pretty clear that what has been discussed is a waste of time. Last time it happened is understandable, but doing the exact same thing seems too stubborn to be true. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 22:40, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
