Hi! I'll be reviewing this article for GA status, and should have the full review up soon. Dana boomer (talk) 21:22, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose): b (MoS):
- The list of "Notable Puerto Ricans of Jewish descent" worries me a little. First, if there are people who are not notable enough to have an article on WP, are they notable enough to be on this list. Second, what is the criterion for inclusion? Who says these people are notable? Third, would it be possible to turn this list into prose, i.e., one paragraph on the people who are actors/actresses, one on business people, etc. Fourth, please wikilink the stuff they are famous for (university names, movie titles, etc). Comment, Not everyone who is notable has an article in Wikipedia and not everyone who has an article in Wikipedia is notable. This I state with good humor and with no intention of being sarcastic. The notables in this list that have an article have their Wikilinks, however the notables who not not have an article are in the list because they have created mega companies in the island as the sentence which follows their names state. The criteria used is the same as defined by Wikipedia as to who is notable. This is the format which I have used in all of my "immigration" article and I would like to keep them in uniform. Now, I have an idea, I can post references of notability to the names of those who do not have an article yet. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Due to my concerns on sourcing, I have not done a complete prose check on the article. I will complete this when I see work progressing on the sources.
- a (prose): b (MoS):
- It is factually accurate and verifiable.
- a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
- Please mark refs that are not in English with their language. Done Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Please make sure all websites have publishers listed. Done Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- What makes Ref 1 (Judios en Secreto) reliable? Comment - What makes it reliable is that it is from "El Nuevo Dia", a Puerto Rican newspaper. I fixed the reference to reflect where it came from. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- For Ref 3 (Henry Kamen) please add more info on this book. He's written at least two books and one journal article by this title. Done Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #4, as a discussion board posting, is not reliable. However, it looks like this was originally posted elsewhere, so if you can find it someplace else where it is reliable, then use the original posting as your source. Fixed the original work was from "Crypto Jews in Puerto Rico Welcomed by Reform Community", by Harry Ezratty of the Society For Crypto Judaic Studies. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- For Ref #8, it goes to a non-automatic redirect page, so it needs to be fixed. Also, what makes it a reliable source? Replaced I have replaced the reference with one of Dr. Ursula Acosta an authority on the subject. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #9 is a blog, not generally reliable unless the author is an acknowledged expert on the subject. Replaced I have replaced the blog with "Carlism's Defense of the Church in Spain, 1833-1936", By: Alexandra Wilhelmsen a work which covers Spains religious reforms of said period. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- What makes ref #11 (Los Judios en Puerto Rico) reliable? Comment, I made a slight mistake in my reference, this really should have been the same reference as Ref. #1 which in turn came "El Nuevo Dia", a Puerto Rican newspaper which is a reliable source, I fixed my mistake. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Please add publisher info to the Rivera book of Ref #13. Done Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #15 (Yeshiva) is a Yahoo Group, generally not considered reliable. Replaced with relible "news" source. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Is Ref #17 (What's Cooking) a book? If so, could you please add author and publisher info. Done Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #19 (Music) goes to a "no search results returned" page. Fixed The ref is now #17. Replaced with a source from the wrelible "Fundation of Puerto Rican Culture". Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref #20 (Senate Resolution) goes to a Google results page. Fixed I could only place the www which leads to the resolution, maybe some one can format it for me? Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've added a few fact tags where I would like to see references. Taken care of Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

- Mathias Brugman's photo is used twice in this article, once in the lead collage and once later in the article. Is it really necessary to see him twice? Isn't there someone/something else one of his photos could be replaced by? Removed Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

- Pass/Fail:
- Overall, I believe this is a nice article on an important topic. However, I have major concerns about the quality of the sourcing, and the reliability of many of the references. I am placing this review on hold to allow the main editors time to work on the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. Dana boomer (talk) 22:02, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Second Review
[edit]Making a seperate section so my new comments don't get lost above.
- Ref 14 (Yeshiva) still goes to a Yahoo Group, which is unreliable. Replaced
- I understand your arguments for the list of notable people, and with the addition of references for those that do not have their own article, I am OK with the current composition of it. However, I would still like to see some more wikilinks in this section. For example, the two movies that Joaquin Phoenix acted in, a link to what "salsa" is for Brenda Starr, etc. Done
The article is looking really good. Just the two issues above (ref 14 and the wikilinks) are all that are preventing a promotion to GA status. Drop a note here when you have those finished and I will take a final look through the article. Dana boomer (talk) 18:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Dana, thank you for your recommendations. I think that the article now looks awesome because of the improvements made. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:03, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hmph... Ref 14 now goes to a MSN group, which is no more reliable than a Yahoo group. Not to mention it appears to be just a list of links, and has a notice at the top saying it's going to be shut down in February... Dana boomer (talk) 21:34, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it seems to me that the Rabbi posts everything either on a Yahoo, MSN or "You Tube" website, which according to policy are unreliable. Therefore, I can not cite that the synagogue in the city of Mayaguez teaches it's doctrine in "Spanish", even though that is the case. O.K., this is what I have done, I eliminated from the sentence the fact that they teach in Spanish and replaced the reference with a reliabe one which shows that said synagogue does exsist. I hope that that takes care of it. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:53, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Allright, everything looks good now, so I'm going to pass the article to GA status. Nice work. If you ever do find a reliable ref about the teaching in Spanish, feel free to add the information back in, as it is an interesting tidbit. Dana boomer (talk) 23:08, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
