- Jetliner (disambiguation) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) → Jetliner (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – The disambiguation page should be at the non-disambiguated title (Jetliner redirects to Jetliner (disambiguation)). Moved from speedy rename
[edit]- Yes, it's true that Jetliner redirects to Jetliner (disambiguation), but that only became true yesterday! Isn't Jet airliner the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here? That was the destination of the redirect for the last five years before yesterday. I suggest that every time someone says "Targetname already redirects to Oldname", someone really needs to check how long that has been true before proceeding. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:05, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, I did check that before making the request, but the length of time that the redirect pointed to any one target does not necessarily mean that that target is primary (although, obviously, the target can be the primary topic). Suggesting that a check was not performed is unnecessary. Additionally, the various administrators that clerk these requests can, and from my experience do, check the history as well. This request can be withdrawn, although I'll leave it here to make sure my response is seen. -Niceguyedc Go Huskies! 01:38, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Object to speedy rename this is in essence a usurption of prior use, since the target of the redirect was a recent change (the day prior to this request) and that change itself is disputed, so clearly this can never be an uncontroversial request. -- 65.94.79.6 (talk) 04:45, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Survey
[edit]- Oppose jetliner should be restored to point to Jet airliner as it did before a few days ago, as the longstanding redirect location. -- 65.94.79.6 (talk) 06:05, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose - Jet airliner is the primary meaning and jetliner should redirect to it as before. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 08:42, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose - jetliner should redirect to jet airliner. - Ahunt (talk) 10:53, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Support- by all means go with the flow and redirect to jet airliner but the reason it was changed was that jetliner is a peculiarly north american term and those outside of the area searching for jetliner are unlikely to be looking for the aircraft. In the interests of making Wikipedia culturally neutral I believe that it would serve the majority of people best if it were to go to the disambig. page. Ex nihil (talk) 00:58, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Is there a reason to think that this is a "peculiarly north american term"? As a USian, it strikes ma as a distinctly odd term. Some quick googling suggests the term is used in various contexts throughout the world. older ≠ wiser 01:17, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. The primary usage is jet airliner. No, it's not a peculiarly North American term. I'm British and it would certainly be the meaning I'd think of. No, it's not terribly common, but then neither are any of the other terms on the disambiguation page. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:32, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. The primary usage is jet airliner. None of the other terms on the DAB page, individually or together, come close. And no, it's not a peculiarly north american term. I'm Australian. Andrewa (talk) 05:52, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
