James O'Shea vs Jay O'Shea
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- Consensus was: move to Jay O'Shea
Should this article be called James O'Shea or Jay O'Shea instead? I have no opinion on the matter, but if you agree for a move please do not use cut-and-paste, but instead try to establish a consensus (that's what talk pages are about) and then ask me or another admin to move it. Thaznks in advance. --Angelo (talk) 13:34, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- The article makes enough mention that James O'Shea is also know as Jay O'Shea, so in my opinion it is unneccesary to change the name of the article. Alistair 84 (talk) 13:50, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- A very brief survey of reliable published sources: Older Irish press reports tend to call him James, more recent ones have Jay. His previous club has Jay, and the FAI website is about 2:1 in favour of Jay, including on the U-21s squad page. English media and his new club refer to him as James. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:28, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Only known in Ireland as Jay O'Shea, in time English press will call him Jay. It's similar to Dave Mooney, on his arrival they called him David but he is now correctly referred to as 'Dave'.--FiftyDeadMenWalking (talk) 16:18, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- I say move to "Jay".--Vintagekits (talk) 16:21, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

- Also, some of the reputable UK-based media have used Jay: Sky Sports, The Times, BBC. Seems like the majority of English-language media that have actually heard of the player are calling him Jay. I'd have no problem with the article being moved. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:56, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like a scenario where the British media have initially used his "formal" name, but the player/club have let it be known he would prefer to be known by the less formal Jay. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 10:03, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

- What did I tell ya the first time? Lets put it this way - when I come across people acting like dickheads I tend to mirror that action! simples. Now isnt there an article about a Knutsford Rovers player that you should be writin?--Vintagekits (talk) 11:34, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- What exactly have I, or any other editor here, done to be classed as a "dickhead"? GiantSnowman 11:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Who said I was calling you a dickhead?--Vintagekits (talk) 15:01, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- So you're earlier statement of "people acting like dickheads" wasn't inferring that anyone was a dickhead? GiantSnowman 15:03, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
