Lieutenant-General
[edit]'Appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1881 and advanced to Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath in 1893, he later achieved the rank of lieutenant general in the service of the Royal Artillery. ... Hills-Johnes was High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire in 1886 ...'
This suggests that the retired from the British Army in the mid-1880s. Why was he made lieutenant-general after he retired. Generals are not promoted for corps or regimental service but higher command. Anthony Staunton (talk) 13:00, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
