[edit]I'm appalled by attempts to blank this article. "Islamic university" is a legitimate term used by several universities worldwide (and the article says that). If someone wants to delete this article, they should express themselves here.VR talk 01:49, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
"Islamic university" and "Islamic tradition"
[edit]The introduction claims, without reference, that "the term "Islamic university" (sometimes called madrasah jāmiʿah (Arabic: مدرسة جامعة)) can be used to describe secular educational institutions that were founded by people of Islamic tradition".
But what does this mean? Since the institution of the university was introduced by the Christian Latin West and adopted by the Islamic world no earlier than the 20th century, that is in the full light of (secular) modernity, and very much rather against the Islamic tradition than in accordance with it, the question what "Islamic tradition" is referred to?
In view of the OR introduction, I propose to make this page a disambiguation page to the individual universities with "Islamic" in their name, leaving out any POV attempt at meta-explanation. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 15:01, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
- There are numerous universities which call themselves an "Islamic university". A brief explanation is in order. But this can probably be expanded into an article.VR talk 16:49, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
