INDI-IRANI

[edit]

Ray R. Irani is the head of Occidental Petroleum. Is he Irani?

Aruna Irani is quite certainly not Irani - her first name is a hindu name.

I have removed her from the list since this page appears to be largely unchanged since a while now.

According to the biographical details she gave in an interview, her father is an Irani Zoroastrian while her mother his Hindu. She still is ethnically half an Irani so she goes back up -User: Afghan Historian

About this "Melhi Dinshaw Irani" Does this guy even exist! I typed him up on the internet and I cant find anything! It said no such name existed. Please provide a source or stop putting non-existant people on the list. Thank you. Afghan Historian 21:36, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

The reason why you didn't find him is cause you should have google searched Mehli Irani. One of the many links/articles/bio's is http://www.the-week.com/23sep07/sports2.htm

Note:Even if you google Melhi Irani you would come across the following link in which they mention him. http://p207.ezboard.com/fthevictortrumpercricketboardfrm36.showMessage?topicID=17.topic Search down for "Irani"

Ethnicity

[edit]

Can someone provide reference for that this is indeed an ethnic group?! --Rayis 02:23, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the ethnic box as no references were inserted since (end of) January to show that they are indeed seen as an ethnic group --Rayis 21:38, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Language

[edit]

I would like a source that they do speak Dari (Zoroastrian) and not Marathi or the local language. azalea_pomp

Irani = Iranian = Iran Person (or Iran People)

[edit]

Irani is what Iranians call themselves. It's an inflection of the word Iran that means "Iran Person" or "Iran People", depending on the context. (I.e., it is their word for Iranian.)

Those Iranian Zoroastrian in Pakistan and India who are calling themselves Irani are just saying they are Iranian. That's all. But every other Iranian in Iran (or anywhere else) calls themselves Irani too, whether they are Zoroastrian or not.

This article should be renamed to something else. And the page for Irani should be changed into a disambiguous page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charles Iliya Krempeaux (talkcontribs) 05:39, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Irani = Iranian = Iran Person (or Iran People)

[edit]

How about this for a new intro....

Irani is what Persians call themselves. It is an inflection of Iran, which means Iranian. And a cognate of Aryani, which means Aryan.
In some places, like Pakistan and India, where there has been immigration by Iranian Zoroastrians within the last two centuries, the term Irani has become synonymous with those Iranian Zoroastrians.

The current first paragraph could them be put in it's own section. Perhaps titled "Irani in Pakistan and India". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charles Iliya Krempeaux (talkcontribs) 22:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Differences Between Parsis and Iranis

[edit]

Is there any major difference? I can't find too many in either the Irani or the Parsi articles --Maurice45 (talk) 15:51, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Irani Trophy

[edit]

Don't know whether some mention of the Irani Trophy would be appropriate here. WikiOn ( t | c ) 17:04, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
