Recent cuts - February 2015

[edit]

I reverted some recent performance history cuts.

  1. Saying the first performance ever at the Metropolitan Opera after 123 years is not a significant event seems subjective, many others would say it was. It attracted significant media attention, including the invasion of the stage by political protesters. Furthermore the event was referenced in several other places on the page, so the deletion did not make much sense,
  2. A citation tag is not becessarily a challenge of veracity, simply a request for the source. We have no reason to doubt the veracity, and the preferred option would have been to check the Bolshoi's own schedule. Frankly it does not matter how many performances were given in 2006, unless it was unusual, but it was performed and is in the repertoire. I added some citations.--Michael Goodyear (talk) 19:52, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Whether "firsts" at the Met are particularly notable is debatable. The paragraph about recordings of Robert's aria, a filmed version, and regularly performances at the Bolshoi and in Belarus had been challenged since January 2010. I don't doubt the veracity, but such statements in Wikipedia articles need references. If they stay unsourced after 5 years, they should be removed. The reference from the Bolshoi you now added doesn't support that claim either, and the other two parts of that paragraph remain unsourced. Appropriate tags, {{failed verification}} and {{citation needed}}, should be added. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 05:59, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
