[edit]The only gas engine available was the 345? What about the 392? --Barta bus (talk) 14:19, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- There were also the MV-404 (6.6 liter) and MV-446 (7.3 liter) V-8 gas engines, both of which were discontinued when the S-1823 chassis was dropped in January 1981. For a short period of time the Cat 3208 diesel was an option (it was dropped after January 1981 along with the aforementioned S-1823 chassis), I've added that to the list of V8 diesel engines. S-1723, S-1823, 1753-FC and 1853-FC
[edit]I need to point out that other models in this series of IH Schoolmaster chassis include the S-1723 (gas engines), the S-1753 (diesel engines), the S-1823 (gas engines) and, the 1753-FC and 1853-FC front engine forward-control stripped chassis. The chassis most of us know as the S-1800 for school buses is internally known as the S-1853. The S-1823 used gas engines while the S-1853 used diesels. The S-1823 was dropped after January 1981, while the 1853-FC stripped chassis appeared that September (Carpenter was one of the early bus builders to use this particular chassis). The previous stripped front-engine, forward-control chassis was the 1753-FC which appeared in 1977. WikiPro1981X (talk) 07:34, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for this information! I've been wondering where I can find more information on the FC chassis (the predecessor to the current 3900). I've also been meaning to change the S-1800 name in the header paragraph to something else, as there were both S-1700 and S-1800 models available during the production run. Any additional references would be greatly appreciated. --SteveCof00 (talk) 22:42, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- Steve, I should point out the previous 1853-FC chassis from the 1960s (during the Loadstar era) used only six-cylinder gas engines and manual transmissions. WikiPro1981X (talk) 03:00, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Wisconsin link is shallow, and for trucks, I thought it was better than nothing. Loadstar has bus version numbers in detail. I am thinking of using engine numbers from both here. Sammy D III (talk) 13:48, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
DT466?
[edit]On 17 May the DT466 left the Powertrain diesel table. I looked at the Differences, but couldn't figure out how. Intentional, or a glitch? And if you want me to stop looking over your shoulder, please let me know, I've done it a lot. Sammy D III (talk) 16:16, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
"International" brand
[edit]Trucks built by "International Harvester Company" (and "Navistar") are branded "International". This is true from at least 1914, the name may have been in use by 1908. "A History of International Trucks (PDF copy of this article)". International Harvester Company, Chicago, Illinois. April 25, 1961. Retrieved September 19, 2017. explains the brand name in the first paragraph of the second page. Seventy-five years of "International Harvester Company" brochures for "International" trucks are here: [1]
There is a discussion about all International/International Harvester brands at " "Are International Harvester trucks branded "International"?. Thank you. Sammy D III (talk) 21:14, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
