Merge?

[edit]

I disagree that Inner Sphere should be merged, but I think that what the Inner Sphere is needs to be defined more clearly. The IS is a region of space, but the Great Houses and Successor States are merely nations within that boundary. Moreover, for a while, IS was synonymous with "BattleTech's story." With the rise of the Periphery and the Clans this is no longer the case, but I think it deserves to have its own page. Scaletail 04:32, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I can see the merit of merging "Successor States" into this article, since it's the more encompassing category. Besides, what's done in Successor States can be done more appropriately here. Scaletail 20:01, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not so certain...there's a lot of other things going on in the Inner Sphere than the successor states...such as the Star League, independent factions, Comstar, etc. I'd suggest that this be something of an index page with a short blurb on each of those groups, and then links to fuller articles...a fuller taxonomy of the entire battletech wiki sphere is very much needed though, before any of this work is done.M.U.D. 15:10, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which is why I propose merging Successor States into Inner Sphere, and giving the Successor States a section of their own. If you look at that article, it includes info on ComStar and the Free Rasalhague Republic, which are not Successor States or Great Houses. They are, however, Inner Sphere factions that deserve mention. If you want an index page, go to BattleTech. Scaletail 19:14, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Today I began reorganizing this page. Edited text of old page and recycled most of what was already there as an introductory section. I'm also taking down the merge tag for now.M.U.D. 17:29, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

If we already have History of the BattleTech universe, why do we need a long, detailed history of the Inner Sphere? I think it would be more appropriate to move the "historical" information over to History of the BattleTech universe, and just keep the information that affected the makeup of the Inner Sphere (exodus from Terra, formation of the Great Houses, creation of the Star League, its fall, 4th Succession War, Clan invasion). that's what its limited to so far really. The history of the Inner Sphere alone is a big subject. The History of BT Universe isn't really up to standards either and I do plan to give it some love and care eventually. I'm really modeling the historical section off of what is being done for real-world history. For comparison, look at the England entry. A good 25% of the entry is dedicated to history, and then there are links to a "history of england" article, and more sub articles "england in the middle ages" "anglo-saxon england" etc. That's what I'm trying to go for here. I think the real issue here may be that I'm just writing longer BT articles than have been written hitherto, but if you look at the star trek or star wars articles, I'm not really doing anything that's beyond that scope. Some of the material might eventually be moved over to the history article though; I'd have no objections to that...the early history section, in particular, did balloon somewhatM.U.D. 20:05, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
