To do list

[edit]
  • Differences between novel and animation.
  • Plot of second live action TV drama and note on differences from novel.
  • Add more details on the production problems for the film and include some relevant citations. This may require the assistance of a Japanese speaking/reading wiki user to find citable works.
  • Find reviews of the films and books online and in newspapers of the time. Again, a Japanese wiki use could help enormously with this bit.
  • Move some details from plot to character biographies to bulk them out and help reduce the length of the plot section.

Please add more items as you think of them. David Bailey (talk) 15:42, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can find online reviews in my CSE; for example, Justin Sevakis's http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/buried-treasure/2008-07-31/ocean-waves pops up immediately. --Gwern (contribs) 16:51 1 September 2010 (GMT)

Plot summary for sequel

[edit]

I think I've found the plot summary for the sequel in English, but I need someone who has read the book to confirm it. David Bailey (talk) 15:22, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

UK Release Title

[edit]

The first release of the film in an English speaking country will be titled Ocean Waves according to the UK BBFC website. The book still hasn't been released as an English translation yet... does it's title carry precedence in this case, or does the UK film release title take over? Should this article be renamed as a result? David Bailey (talk) 21:14, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

UK Release Date

[edit]

I couple of weeks ago I saw that the BVA stated that it was pulled from schedule, I contacted Optimum Releasing and they stated that it will be released in 2010 to accompany the theatrical release of Ponyo in the UK. Tmvde (talk) 19:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i think this reference can be added

[edit]

The links i have given were from a site that was one of the very important site related to the topic. In that case it was about studio ghibli. Now the link i have given was from onlineghibli.com which is no less popular than nausicaa.net if not more. And there is no need to promote the site as it is even more popular than the nausicaa.net and it is the first result in the search engine. And i absolutely know about the no-follow system or rule of wikipedia. And that site actually verifies the character list as it actually gives pictures of the artists and it has many other infos like music pieces etc.And this site also has been there for 10 years so it is one of the most important reference site to the topic. The problem is i do not know how to use the reference template[and also do not have access to] that is why i needed to give the external link. We all need to improve wikipedia so review my suggestion.Nibir2011 (talk) 16:30, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Plot SUMMARY

[edit]

What we have right now is far beyond what can reasonably be called a summary. The objective is to describe the major plot points, not to provide an abridged screenplay. People should still have a reason to watch the movie after reading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.176.62 (talk) 13:40, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The first version of the plot section was twice that length and was written before the film was made available in the US, so that American Ghibli fans could read about and understand the film. Once the US DVD release came out, we trimmed it down. The being said... it may be due a bit more editing to bring it under the recommended 700 words. David Bailey (talk) 12:30, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Plot has now been trimmed down to 800 words. Anyone else fancy a go? David Bailey (talk) 12:08, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dubbed version

[edit]

Mumbai0618 added a sentence stating that no version dubbed into Engliah has been released, but the reference they added was dated December 25, 2022, and I see it listed on the GKIDS page as available dubbed either on DVD/Blu-Ray or streamed on Apple TV. I haven't found a press release or other citeable reference about the dubbed version being released, and Mumbai0618 says on their talk that it isn't actually available, so making this section for discussion and in hopes of someone finding a later 3rd-party reference we can cite. Yngvadottir (talk) 01:48, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Following up on this, I looked through the page provided more thoroughly, specifically the various links provided. Clicking on the Apple link shows only Japanese at the language, as does the links to ordering the physical releases via GKIDS and Amazon (the latter also has it for streaming, and only in Japanese). While a fan dub exists, I am inclined to say with certainty that there is no English dub and that the description in the link is a typo, especially if GKIDS themselves cannot provide one. The only step I can see from here is to ask GKIDS directly, but otherwise, I see it perfectly suitable to put the statement and its source back in, albeit with the date corresponding to its source.Mumbai0618 (talk) 22:20, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Mumbai0618[reply]
