Page creation

[edit]

Creatd this page as new page for Vegas AOW races. The Las Vegas Grand Prix page is more appropriately an F1 page, and since there is now a recreation of the event, which clearly appears to be simply "Vegas Grand Prix" (no "Las" in the title), this page can closely resemble how we resolved the Detroit GP pages. Page is still under construction. Doctorindy 19:52, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

Removed the references to races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as they are not relevant to Grand Prix races held in downtown Las Vegas or on the Strip.

If someone wants to create a page for the History of OW racing in Las Vegas, that would be a better place.

Also, I believe this page and all pages relating to Champ Car Grand Prix races should be titled (place of race) Champ Car Grand Prix, i.e. Belgium Champ Car Grand Prix; Cleveland Champ Car Prix; because the name of the races each year will change depending on title sponsors. For example the page for the Grand Prix of Edmonton for this year is Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton; 2006 was West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix. Links on most pages are set to look for West Edmonton but that page no longer exists.

Also, should remove the merge recommend banner as the two entities are entirely different.

  • So far, the way it has been handled, as far as race history between multiple sanctioning bodies in the Wiki AOWR, is that AAA/USAC/CART/IRL/CC races that are at the same facility, or same city, regardless of immediate "direct connection," are listed on the same page, same chart for simplicity. For example, the Tamiami Park CART races are listed in the same page as Homestead results..."Miami" being the connection. That decision was accepted last fall when many of the pages were created. While it's true that the IRL LVMS races are not directly linked to the current Vegas CC street race, it does share the city in common, and thus, it creates a connection with the overall history of OW racing in the Las Vegas area. The arguement that the races are not connected holds little worth vs., say, the Casear's Palace CART race, which is listed in the chart. Not the same track, nor the same promoters, and technically not even the same sanctioning body, but it still has "Las Vegas" as the connection. I think we should hold to our precident, and the IRL LVMS results should be shown here. I'll wait for a second. Doctorindy 14:36, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Also, the merege tag needs to be done away with, but not before some work is done. The F1 race is totally seperate, and we need to figure out a way to split the two articles entirely. Doctorindy 14:36, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Latest thinking at WP:F1 (as discussed on Talk:Las Vegas Grand Prix) is that Las Vegas Grand Prix should be renamed as Caesars Palace Grand Prix and restricted to covering just the 2 F1 races and 2 CART races held at Caesars Palace from 1981-1984. DH85868993 15:57, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Archive

[edit]

Archived for the time being the IRL results at LVMS. Until they are replaced somewhere else, or back on this page, this chart should be placed here so the information (and the work put into it) is not lost. Doctorindy 14:28, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

After over a year of inaction, I have taken the effort to merget the non-F1 history of the Las Vegas races and LVMS races into one article. It will be divided cleanly, and easy to follow. It is widely rumored and generally accepted as certian, that the IRL will return to LVMS for 2009, and cleaning up this page and its history will be appropirate. For now, it will sit at Hurricane Relief 400 until an official race name is announced. Doctorindy (talk) 17:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IZOD IndyCar World ChampionshipsIndycar races in Las Vegas – Fails WP:PRECISE, as the current title only refers to the most recent event described in this article. On top of that it also fails WP:RECOGNISABILITY and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, as I think it can be fairly assumed that most people would expect an article at this title to either cover the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship or the Indycar Series in general. Moving this article to a WP:NDESC would also reduce the implication that there is some sort of formal lineage or continuity between the different events described here, which could be interpreted as WP:OR or at the very least WP:SYNTH. The subject of this article (as it currently exists) is American open-wheel car races held in the Las Vegas area generically; I believe that the aforementioned 2011 event is likely the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the current title and that it should probably redirect there. • Support: Was on the verge of closing this, but I seem to have developed an opinion in favor of moving, and it seems this request needed some discussion. It does appear that the title of "IZOD IndyCar World Championships" wasn't used (at least, in the article itself) until 2011, and the previous years from 1996 to then do not appear to have sources or any mention of that name. IndyCar Series states that IZOD was only the sponsor from '09 to '13, so it definitely doesn't make sense for it to be in the title here, and as for redirecting, we should redirect either to 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship or the overview section of IndyCar Series which briefly details the name (I can't decide which, the second option provides a general overview, but very little in the way of content otherwise). • Support per nom. Much better description of what this article is about. I'm not sure about whether the current title should redirect to 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship or continue pointing here (in the short term I'd say definitely have it point to this article until links can be changed) but I don't see any benefit of pointing to IndyCar Series.
