Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose to merge Hidarnes II into Hydarnes II. Reason : Same person. ManuRoquette (talk) 16:46, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

infobox

[edit]

Good evening @HistoryofIran:.

Why did you delete the infobox alltogether ? if what you disliked was the use of the wording "king of Armenia". That point is fair, king of armenia is an ambiguous term; satraps and especially the orontids who were quasi-hereditary satraps of Armenia, holding the position until Hellenistic times, behaved as monarchs but were not technically kings.

Your criticism of the numbers however do not hold, those are used in academic research.

Regardless, I think an infobox provides the reader with fast and useful info and honestly feel it does benefit the article --ManuRoquette (talk) 23:44, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Because he did not rule. It is not even certain he that he had any relation to Armenia: He may have been a satrap (i.e. governor). Nor was he an Orontid. Herodotus is primary source, and Khachatryan is not even WP:RS, so I'm not sure what you mean by academic research. Neither Briant nor Schmitt refers to him as Hydarnes II, nor Orontid, nor king. And those are not the only sources. --HistoryofIran (talk) 23:46, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
