Hi. By using the unreliable, but though helpful service Google Translate, I see that the first sentence means (something like) this: 'Family is a sign of family possessions, indicating a sign.' Also translation of the literature references under 'External links' indicates that one is dealing with housemarks: 'Pekka: Family names - Estonian coats of arms' and 'Tatiana Efimova: Votic family, and other marks of ownership'. Housemarks were, just like these peremärks, used mainly on family possessions, and especially cows, which were expensive. I think that it is safe to link this article in Estonian to the House mark article.
