Hou Yu-IhHou You-yi – It may seem to others that WP:RMTR is a better venue for this proposal, but after discussion regarding WP:OFFICIALNAME vs WP:COMMONNAME with regards to other article moves at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Taiwan#Page moves and article titles had ended, it seems that such moves deserve more discussion.

I am proposing that this article be moved to its original WP:COMMONNAME title. WP:OFFICIALNAME says quite clearly that WP:COMMONNAME supersedes it. Relying solely on the sources within this article, Hou Yu-ih (note capitalization) been used in early coverage of the subject's police career, but the original title Hou You-yi was in earlier use and remains most frequent in coverage about law enforcement or Hou's current post. Hou You-yiHou Yu-ih – There are three reasons to request this renaming: 1. It is both WP:COMMONNAME and WP:OFFICIALNAME. Foreign media based on Taiwan and outside Taiwan use it. For further discussion please visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Vycl1994#Hou_Yu-ih 2. Hou You-yi is the wrong spelling which was once popularized by incorrect media reporting and lack of professional journalism. Some of these have corrected it now. 3. We should use the naming conventions for Chinese names captioned here: "Chinese names should be written in Hanyu Pinyin unless there is a more common romanization used in English (for example, Chiang Kai-shek, Sun Yat-sen) or when the subject of the article is likely to prefer a non-pinyin romanization as is often the case with people from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and older overseas Chinese communities (for example, Lee Kuan Yew, Lee Teng-hui, Tung Chee-hwa)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(Chinese)#Romanization_of_names Asoksevil (talk) 17:06, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In order to help make this article more properly encyclopedic, shouldn't we discuss (at least briefly) Hou's views regarding the relationship between mainland China (and the Chinese Communist Party) and Taiwan? 98.123.38.211 (talk) 19:28, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
