Fair use rationale for Image:Houston Police Department patch.JPG

[edit]

Image:Houston Police Department patch.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Opinion on article rewrite

[edit]

I've been contemplating this for awhile, but I've been thinking about doing a rewrite on this (and HFD's) article. While the current format makes it easy to see any changes, it just seems a bit too dry for me. But since I don't think I can be neutral about this, I'd like an outsider's opinion. --Hourick (talk) 17:48, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral?

[edit]

Though Wikipedia encourages neutrality by allowing criticism, facts surrounding the Pedro Oregon Navarro shooting keep being deleted from this page. Despite the final ruling, that was one of the most publicized examples of the long-standing and well-documented pattern of Houston Police misconduct - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Police_Department#Misconduct , http://www.texasobserver.org/crimes-unpunished/ , etc. etc..., but neither it or any similar events appear anywhere on this page. Has Wikipedia's stance on neutrality changed, or should all historical facts be allowed to remain? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.20.85.28 (talk) 06:48, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've removed it because it's being given undue weight. What you have is an event that you cherry picked to put in, but there's no reason for it. No officers were convicted of any wrong-doing. The obligatory civil suit was dismissed. In short, it became a non-event. While it's a tragedy for the family, it simply isn't significant in the history of the agency and the agency is the subject. Before you say it, yes, there are many things in this article that aren't significant but WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS isn't a valid argument. When I have time, I'll eliminate more fluff. Just because something happened, doesn't mean it gets included. If you want to deal with misconduct, find incidents where the officer was convicted of a crime or there was a significant civil award from a trial (not merely an award, but a sizable one). Those would be relevant and not undue weight. Niteshift36 (talk) 07:53, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
