WW II airstrips + Heliports
[edit]Weren't there many airstrip? For example, I'm quite sure that there was one in Comilla.
During 1970s/80s, wasn't there a helicopter service from Southern districts, that got canceled due to some helicopter-hit-by-bird incidents? --Ragib 18:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Checking on both of the bits. The private airlines part is far from complete. It would also require Flight Schools, as they, too, need airline licensing in Bangladesh. As for the WWII stuff I have made a request elsewhere for a book on the eastern theater of operation. Hopefully we may be able to find more on the RIAF activites (the americans also used to have squadron or something in Dhaka that time). Cheers. Aditya Kabir 19:44, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
This Section doesnt mention an oft-forgotten fact about Air Operations from present day Bangladesh. Shamshernagar and Kurmitola (current Zia Airport) were used by the US Army Air Corps for "Flying the Hump"... ie transporting supplies over the hills onto Kunming, China. I was browsing around a month or so back about this, and will contribute to this soon.

Restructure
[edit]I think the contents of the current Modern aviation section should be merged into WWII or Liberation war sections.
A Modern aviation section should be added after the liberation war section and detail the birth of "Bangladeshi" aviation (i.e. post liberation) as opposed to Indian or Pakistani aviation (pre-independence). It may even just be a section heading with the later sections moved to a level 3 heading.

- Well, I have restructured the article quite a bit. Take a look. Aditya Kabir 16:09, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Looks good. Made a minor tweak and integrated the liberation section with pre-independence. It was such a short period there wouldn't be much to write about :) → AA (talk • contribs) — 16:36, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. Should we put logos of the private airlines into the table? Like the List of circulating currencies? Aditya Kabir 17:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- The main problem would be that we don't have logos for all the airlines. Also, I think it may not be too useful unlike the currencies list where the country flag is used and is recognised internationally. Something to consider when going for GA I guess :) → AA (talk • contribs) — 19:43, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Foreign airlines
[edit]The recent addition of Air Sylhet to the list got me thinking. Is there anything historic we can include about foreign airlines?
- What were the first foreign airlines to operate services to each of the international airports?
- Handover of Shah Amanat International Airport to a foreign company to manage.
- Additional details on history of the airports.
→ AA (talk • contribs) — 20:51, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Air Sylhet is not a Bangladeshi airline. It is a charter airline of the UK and as such should not be listed in the table. → AA (talk) — 22:05, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- It is, unfortunately, categorized as a Bangladeshi airline. That led me to the mistake. Can you see to the proper categorization for Air Sylhet? Aditya(talk • contribs) 03:43, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I hadn't noticed that. I've removed it from the category. → AA (talk) — 08:27, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Balaka Biman
[edit]In 1972, Soviet Union gave Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman an aircraft as gift for personal use. The name of the aircraft is ‘Balaka Biman’. In 1991, the engine of the aircraft was given by Air Force towards science museum.[1]
Did you know about that? → AA (talk) — 10:53, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
