[edit]Given the large number of other places also named Gold Coast, this article name should probably contain some reference to Queensland or Australia. SM247 23:07, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Someone should define "gold coast"
[edit]Suggestion: This is a good article, but at the beginning of the article, someone should write, "The gold coast is an xx-mile region in eastern/western/northern/southern Australia in the county/district of Queensland."
Because I came to this article thinking it was about the gold coast in New York. It wasn't until the second paragraph that I was sure they were talking about Australia. I guess I should have known Queensland was in Australia, but there is a Queens, N.Y. too, so I thought maybe it had to do with that. Anyway, it would definitely be cool if someone could define exactly where the gold coast is at the beginning of the article. Good job other than that. Maurajbo (talk) 13:08, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
[It's not "The Gold Coast". It's "Gold Coast". You don't say "The New York" or "The Port Melbourne" do you? The place is called "Gold Coast". The city is formally called "City of Gold Coast".] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.167.96.39 (talk) 13:52, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, common usage is to include the. We say "we are going to the Gold Coast" which is akin to "we are going down the coast". If you were born in Southport, then you would more likely say "I am from the Gold Coast" than "I am from Gold Coast". I would support a move. - Shiftchange (talk) 21:10, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed. We do talk about "the Gold Coast" not "Gold Coast" so I think the title could be changed to include "the". Kerry (talk) 23:27, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
- Doubly agreed. As a resident of the city since the 1970s I can understand it may be confusing to others but the 'the' is commonly used. Even the city council's website states: "Welcome to City of Gold Coast... The Gold Coast is an outstanding global city proudly looking towards its future." [1] It's odd but not completely illogical, and it is the way residents habitually refer to the city. Oneterra (talk) 09:51, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Since it was the state's first and for a time, only casino, I think the year of Conrad Jupiters opening should be included. - Shiftchange (talk) 00:44, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

History of Gold Coast, Queensland → History of the Gold Coast, Queensland – Cleanup of Template:Disputed title, which is currently at WP:TfD. This was the proposed new title. I'll note that there are (at least) three other articles about aspects of this place, and their titles are not consistent with regards to including the definite article or not: Timeline of Gold Coast, Queensland, Transport on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and List of tallest buildings on the Gold Coast. - @TompaDompa: can you give a link to "Cleanup of Template:Disputed title, which is currently at WP:TfD. This was the proposed new title" discussion? VR talk 03:29, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand the question, because those are two different things. The TfD discussion can be seen at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2021 October 26#Template:Cleanup title. The title "History of the Gold Coast, Queensland" was proposed with this edit adding Template:Disputed title to this article. TompaDompa (talk) 03:37, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- @TompaDompa: I see. So you don't necessarily support this move, you're just replacing Template:Disputed title with RMs as part of phasing Template:Disputed title out? VR talk 04:20, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- I've looked through the uses of the template and started WP:RMs where I thought it appropriate to do so, yes. For this one, I have no particular opinion other than that we should probably be consistent about whether we use the definite article. TompaDompa (talk) 06:22, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

- Support current title sounds funny as we use "the" in this case....Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 09:14, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
