This article has been split out of the El Paso, Texas article so that

  1. Other articles and templates can explicitly link to El Paso's history as an article rather than as a subsection of the El Paso article.
  2. The El Paso article's history section can be abbreviated (it is a bit long for a city article).

I don't have a strong interest in this topic so I don't expect to be doing much more editing here (I did this myself for reason #1). The history needs some work so please feel free to edit at will ...
