Hilton Paris

[edit]

I'm proposing to merge Hilton Paris page into this one since that hotel is of little independent notability. Pascal.Tesson 14:40, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Support merge proposal and the hotel is known as Hotel Hilton Paris [1] and true lacks independent notability.--John Lake 14:44, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

my reversions

[edit]

1) anti semitism charge - this is strictily wiki npov, facts are to be reported, only objections can be relevance and sourcing, on relevance, certainly that someone portrayed as a humanitarian leader was antisemitic is worth noting 2) reads like advertising, for instance the first line, "flagship" brand is advetising, the sentance about grwoing to americas 1 st coast to coast chain is simply poor english, ungrammatical and poorly written 3) "leading hotels" say who; souirce this with indpendnt source and i will gladly accept it

  • Please sign your posts as suggested in the guidelines. Material about an individual belongs in that persons article. It does not need to be repeated in every article the person might have been involved with. My changes actually reduced the advertising tone of the article. Flagship is not advertising, it is a well accepted term to describe the leading brand for a company. Even if you took it as advertising, how would it affect the article? Its not like we are comparing this brand to another company brand. It only applies to the other Hilton brands. If there is a problem with leading hotels, why not just request a citation with {{fact}} rather then deleting what might be correct information? Vegaswikian 00:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ummm...speaking of "poor English, ungrammatical (not a word), and poorly written" - you should proof-read your own work, then sign it. Thedjb 02:41, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hilton York

[edit]

Just a quick message:

I have added Hilton Hotel York, England to the list of hotels in the UK.

I can confirm that it exists; I am currenly sat in the foyer ;-). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.130.146.200 (talk) 21:04, 15 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Notable hotels

[edit]

Should we keep this section? Right now it appears to be a place to try and list all of the hotels owned by the chain. If the individual property is not notable enough to merit an article, with some exceptions, why should it be included here? Do these entries really belong in a separate list if there is a need to list every hotel? Vegaswikian 22:02, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • who says they are notable ? is this the judgement of a group of city planners or architects , or marketing spin by hilton ? are there objective criteria for this ? untill this is answered with facts, it seems to be a biased statement, not supported by facts that is why I have changed it to "hotels claimed to be notable" If you have some facts or citations to support the more impressive claim "notable hotels" please post.Cinnamon colbert 14:19, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Look at how the headings are on any other article for something notable. This is an encyclopedia and it is based on fact and not allegations. Notable is acceptable, search on 'notable alumni' for one very specific case. So, I'll be restoring the old heading. Please don't use terminology that is un encyclopedic in a heading. As I said in my edit notes, if someone wants to create a list for all of their hotels, feel free to do that. Then we might be able to remove the notable list here and only include hotels that are mentioned specifically in the text. You may also wish to read WP:N. Vegaswikian 19:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is true that there are many wiki articles that use the term "notable". However, most of these don't seem to serve as advertising for a for profit company. I do not think it the job of wikipedia to provide advertising for hilton, whihc, in the absence of a source, is all notable does. E.g., there is an article, notable bostonians - but I don't think that this directly serves a particular for profit group, whereas "notable hotels" does.

Fair use rationale for Image:Hilton hotel.png

[edit]

Image:Hilton hotel.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:35, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bangkok Hilton

[edit]

I removed the section on Bangkok Hilton. I see no reason why this is relevant to the Hilton chain as it was a nickname of a fictional prison and a dirivative of "Hanoi Hilton". Perhaps a "Hilton Hotels in Popular Culture" Section should be added. --Wareagle3890 03:27, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's good idea to add the section Hilton Hotels in Pupular culture, I coulnd't find the reason why Bangkok Hilton is relevant. Daniel 5127 01:49, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Number of images

[edit]

I think we have editors adding an image of any hotel they find in the article. Personally I don't see the need for more then one or two. So if someone wants to replace an existing image fine. I don't know that adding a gallery for images would improve the article so I'm not suggesting that as an alternative. Vegaswikian 19:41, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think the number of images really brings the quality of the article down. I don't find many of them to be very notable and some of the photos are not particularly well-shot. I think we either need a gallery with perhaps one or two prominent Hilton's listed on the page (ie Beverly) or a major cleanup of the article as is.Thedjb 00:14, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think a Gallery or a Table-Gallery will be good , we can add much more images too and it looks good . see City and town halls . Ammar (Talk - Don't Talk) 22:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency with room number of John and Yoko Ono

[edit]

In the page that comes up when searching 'Hilton Hotels', in the last paragraph realting to John Lenon and Yoko Ono's stay at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam, the article states that they stayed in room 902.

However when viewing the same fact on the page 'Bed-in for peace' it states that they statey in room 702.

I do not know which is the correct room, but there definitely is an inconsisteny.

Requested edits

[edit]

Hello! I have been hired as a consultant to Hilton via my work with Beutler Ink to propose updates to this article. I've just finished researching sources and drafting edits for the project, so it's excellent timing that this entry is now Wikipedia's current article for improvement! I'm hoping editors working on the article will consider implementing the following edits (along with any other improvements they make). As a paid consultant with a financial COI, I will not make any changes to the article myself.

I uploaded an updated version of the article to my userspace here, but I recognize the entry has changed a bit since I first began drafting, so I've also listed out my suggested changes below.

  • Changed headquarters to McLean, Virginia
  • Changed intro language to note it is a "global" brand (more accurate than "international")
  • Updated the numbers related to properties in both the introduction and article text (as of 2016, there are more than 570 properties in 84 countries)
  • Removed some of the photos as they are not properties in the collection
    • Hilton Garden Inn is a separate brand
    • The Hilton in Paris does not exist
  • Adjusted the captions of the Sheffield (should be "Sheffield Hilton") and Athens Hilton photo ("The" should be removed)
  • Corrected details regarding Hilton HHonors program
  • Cleaned up the timeline including:
    • Removing any events not directly related to Hilton or significant for the hotels
    • Adding induction of 20 properties into Historic Hotels of America organization

Additionally, I am hoping to post a few new photos for the article later on, but I thought I'd start with these updates while the article is so active. To any editors watching this page, thanks for taking the time to look at this and please let me know if you have feedback. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 22:08, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Just pinging recent editors of the article Davey2010, Mojo Hand, AuthorAuthor, Corinne, and ♥Golf to see if they have interest in taking a look at this request. Thank you in advance for your time! Heatherer (talk) 22:42, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done Hello @Heatherer: I've reviewed your edits to the article and I'm going to discuss a few things which I've declined. You've removed the categories, article tags and hat notes but I've put these back in; I'm assuming this was done by mistake again. I've also put some notable facts back into the article that you've removed (Amsterdam hotel, Sydney Hotel and the Piña Colada fact for example). I think these are notable and have a place in the article. I also removed some which you did want removing because I didn't think they were directly related/involved with Hilton Hotels. I've also approved your captions and photos etc. Have a look at the article and if you need anything else changed, let me know! st170etalk 14:34, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@St170e: Thanks so very much! I appreciate your work here. Overall, I agree with all the changes you made. I would like to discuss a couple of the notable events further. To be specific:
  • Beirut Hilton: I removed this from my draft because it is unsourced and I can't find much about it.
  • Assassination of Youssef Sebai: I removed this because the hotel's involvement wasn't a notable part of the incident.
  • Amsterdam Hilton: Similarly, Herman Brood's suicide is just a sad incident that happened at this hotel—the Hilton wasn't chosen for a reason— and Klaas Bruinsma's assassination happened in front of the building, not on the property.
While these events are interesting—and may be noteworthy enough for inclusion in the articles of individual hotels' articles, my take was that they didn't have an impact on the brand overall and don't seem relevant here. Let me know if you see it differently, though.
On another note, I agree that the pina colada story should be included—it looks like it is in the timeline twice now. Would you mind taking a look at that? Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 20:03, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Heatherer: I'll address these points separately.
  • 1. I performed a quick Google search on Beirut Hilton and there are a lot of sources and material on the Battle of the Hotels so I think this information is quite notable and shouldn't be removed.
  • 2. I think this should be kept here as trivia and it is notable, I think it's worth including this on the article rather than removing it.
  • 3. I would be happy to remove the assassination from the article for the reason you stated but I would insist on the suicide being kept there as he was a notable person and it was actually at the hotel.
  • 4. I've removed the first mention of the piña colada story. Thank you!
I believe that, unless consensus says otherwise (which you may start on this talk page), these notable events should be kept or changed into a section on trivia (which I wouldn't be an advocate for). You should start a RfC if you think that single hotel specific incidents (such as the suicide in Amsterdam) shouldn't be included on the main article. st170etalk 20:43, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I've changed my mind on number 3 and I've removed the whole section about the Amsterdam hotel. --st170etalk 20:45, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

History suggestion

[edit]

Hello, editors. I have a proposal for the removal of the notable history section, and replace it with a history section, but I'm not too sure if it is a good thing. If I can have a few suggestions of what y'all think, that would be great. Thank you, and have a nice day. Redolta (talk) 13:53, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do you propose to convert it from bullet points to actual prose? If so, I totally agree that would be an improvement.--Mojo Hand (talk) 14:12, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree that turning the list into prose would be a great improvement. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 17:19, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Much better. I concur. -AuthorAuthor (talk) 04:55, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so y'all want the history section not with bullet points. Alright! Thank all of you for the positive suggestions and feedback, and have a nice day! Redolta (talk) 16:57, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hilton rebrand

[edit]

Hi! I worked on this article last year on behalf of Hilton and with the help of volunteer editors as part of my duties at Beutler Ink. I'm back in the same capacity (and with the same hands-off approach) to suggest a few updates based on recent company events. I've outlined the four changes below.

  • Hilton has recently rebranded, dropping the "Worldwide" from its name and also renaming its loyalty program Hilton Honors (from Hilton HHonors). Would an editor be able to adjust the mentions of "Hilton Worldwide" and "HHonors" in this article? HHonors appears twice in the Overview section and "Hilton Worldwide" appears in the following places:
    • Twice in the introduction
    • Under "parent" in the infobox
    • Twice in the Overview section
    • Once in the Notable events section in the "In late 2010" bullet
  • HHR now operates in 85 countries. There is a sentence in the introduction that can be updated with that information. The new sentence and source would be:
    • As of 2017, there were more than 570 Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties in 85 countries and territories across six continents.[1]
  • The 85th country is Chad and the new hotel there marks the 100th country for Hilton as a whole. If editors agree that this is noteworthy for inclusion, I'd like to suggest the following bullet be added to Notable events:
    • In 2016, Hilton N’Djamena opened in Chad. It was the brand's first property in the country and Chad was the 100th country Hilton began operations in worldwide.[2]
  • Finally, what do editors think about moving the paragraph "In the 2010s, the company upgraded the energy efficiency in many of their UK branches, installing green controls for doors, windows, and heating to ensure intelligent usage of energy depending upon whether rooms are let or vacant." from Overview to a bullet under Notable events? It doesn't seem to fit well where it is currently.

Let me know if you have any questions or feedback about what I've proposed. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 16:20, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
