Talk:Hieraaetus
Aargh
[edit]The current version (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hieraaetus&oldid=557158310) of this page looks okay at first glance, but closer reading reveals inconsistencies.
- One paragraph says "4 species ... are retained", whilst another says "the remaining 3 species".
- We have "inhabiting Africa and New Guinea", yet H. morphonoides is Australian.
- Orphan reference Bunce et al., with no mention of Haast's eagle in the main text.
- Bunce now used; Haast's eagle has now been reclassified into Hieraaetus Somej (talk) 04:49, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- Overlap between Notes and References sections.
Also, I have difficulty with the statement that they belong in the subfamily Buteoninae, when the main Acciptridae article (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Accipitridae&oldid=611291933) lists subfamily Aquilinae. (This may reflect the problem that the main Buteoninae article (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Buteoninae&oldid=609457315) lists many more genera than those given for Buteoninae in the Acciptridae article.)

On a stylistic note, heavy wikilinking of keywords in titles of the reference articles is distracting.
Finally, and potentially most serious, the re-assignment of the type species H. pennatus to A. pennata is not supported by the references listed in this article. Both Bunce and Lerner & Mindell group H. pennatus with H. morphnoides, etc.

Hieraeetus?
[edit]Can someone explain why the spelling "Hieraeetus" is also recognised by wiki, and redirects here? It is used for instance here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booted_eagle#Taxonomy . I strongly suspect this is a typo, but someone has made it a legitimate alternative spelling here. Web searches show almost entirely "Hieraaetus", with the alternate spelling only showing up from those websites which mirror back your search term, you know "Looking for Hieraeetus? We've got it cheap!" Now, I could simply correct the spelling in the Booted Eagle article, but that won't fix the unjustified enshrinement of Hieraeetus legitimacy. 2001:56A:F0E9:9B00:C41B:BDA9:6FC2:C286 (talk) 22:51, 29 August 2022 (UTC)JustSomeWikiReader
