Independent 501(c)(3) and CIO

[edit]

There is an odd line in the article which I also think it out of date. "Choose Love is not registered as an independent charity in the UK, it operates as a "restricted fund under the auspices of Prism the Gift Fund"." It is odd to include that as it sounds vaguely negative (and fails to note that Prism the Gift Fund is a charity, so operating as a sub-fund of a charity seems pretty normal to me. But additionally, it is sourced to the Choose Love website, which now says: "Choose Love was established as a restricted fund under the auspices of Prism the Gift Fund, UK charity no. 1099682. In the USA, Choose Love, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) charitable non-profit organisation, and gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Choose Love’s success over the last 8 years means we have reached a size and capacity to transition from Prism, as other charities have done before us, and continue our work as the independent charity Choose Love CIO no. 1177927". So it would be more accurate to say that Choose Love is a 501(c)(3) (charity) and an independent charity (CIO) in the UK. But I question whether we need to have this at all? I'm not making a change at the moment because I'm not sure what standard practice is across all charitable organizations. Jimbo Wales (talk) 09:25, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As there were no comments and no changes on this, I have removed the claim that Choose Love is not an independent charity. I didn't replace it with a claim that it is, because I don't think that's normal practice and an odd thing to call out for no reason.
See: https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/5107504 in case there's consensus that a link is needed.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 14:12, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
