[edit]The NNDB lists Fierstein's birthplace as Bensonhurst, NY, not Brooklyn. [1] Gilliamjf 05:34, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Bensonhurst is a neighborhood of Brooklyn.--Screwball23 talk 00:58, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
gay actors
[edit]shouldn't Harvey Fierstein be listed under Gay Actors? Pdudesek 00:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Done Marking as resolved. ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:44, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
Voice
[edit]Shouldnt it be noted that he has a very powerful voice? Y2J RKO (talk) 18:50, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- There should certainly be made better mention of his voice. A single adjective doesn't seem sufficient for something so distinctive. 06:11, 1 January 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mnealon (talk • contribs)
Atheist?
[edit]I was reading over the source saying he is an atheist, and when reading it, It looks as though he may have been being sarcastic. I'm pretty sure it could be taken either way. I don't have my own interpretation because it's just a little odd to say either way. 98.198.83.12 (talk) 15:56, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, when i read the source i felt that he was more agnostic maybe not sarcastic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.229.175.95 (talk) 15:15, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
You're right. In fact it's absolutely ridiculous to categorize Fierstein as an aetheist at all, on the basis of that source. I note anyway that the category of "American Jews" has since been added. That's undeniable and at least verified by that same source.Colin marks (talk) 13:55, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- I disagree with the above commenters that Fierstein was somehow being sarcastic about atheism in the above reference. I do not interpret it that way at all. Furthermore, his atheism is mentioned in reference #6, "Harvey Fierstein Gets 'Kinky' and Discusses His Jewish Roots" from Forward.com. He couldn't be plainer when he says, "I'm now an atheist." He expands on it in the next paragraph and in the last paragraph where he says, "Theater is my temple and my religion and my act of faith." Note that when someones says that they are an atheist, it's usually because they are. Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 07:04, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
Year of birth
[edit]The references of this article contain two different years of birth:
- 1952: broadwayworld.com, reviews-and-ramblings.dreamwidth.org
- 1954: imdb.com, archives.yale.edu, www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org
While this article contains the year 1952, Encyclopædia Britannica uses 1954. It is not obvious to me that 1952 is the correct year of birth. Can anyone clarify this? --Kallichore (talk) 04:49, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- Harvey Fierstein’s autobiography ‘I Was Better Last Night’ has multiple references to how old Harvey is by year. For example in 1971 when he was doing the Andy Warhol play Pork Harvey writes he was barely 19 and got turndown from going to London with the show because of his age. Harvey’s real birth year is 1952 not 1954. ReSearch1011 (talk) 21:53, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Revising article to 1952 per additional reliable sources:
- Library of Congress confirmed with Fierstein in 2021 that his birth year is 1952.
- Fierstein explained the reason behind the widespread error in a 2022 interview.
The erroneous 1954 year is widely published in (otherwise typically reliable) sources, but Fierstein himself has gone on record to correct the date. — HipLibrarianship talk 02:22, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
Reorg
[edit]I made some bold edits and reorganized the career section chronologically. Previously, there was a general career section with an acting subsection. Given the occasional overlap between Fierstein's writing and his acting, this didn't make sense to me. Also, there was material in the acting section that didn't belong there. Please discuss before reverting. Thanks. MonMothma (talk) 02:40, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
