Who Else?
[edit]Who else recorded this song? Who made the first recording? Just because Elvis made it a hit doesn't mean the article should focus on him. —MiguelMunoz (talk) 19:25, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Cat Stevens recorded a version of it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.133.141.124 (talk) 19:46, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Emphasis of this article should shift to Wanda Jackson, away from Elvis
[edit]While Elvis may have released a recording of this song before Wanda Jackson did, believe me that as a child growing up in Tennessee in the early 1960's, it was the Wanda Jackson recording that got all the airplay and became an absolute ear-worm for people of my generation.Harborsparrow (talk) 13:50, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- Look, she and Elvis were basically kids together and talents together, asking her father's permission to date and all that. She did these country rockabilly hits at least as well. But this is a real open and shut case of holding back the one for the wrong chromosomes. Not that getting the Elvis treatment was good for him of course. But even today here is Wikipedia saying that the song is basically an Elvis hit ( he didn't write it of course) and everybody else connected to the song like Wanda are incidental characters. It's kind of funny IMO that this article in almost 2023 is a perfect example of what Wanda faced in the late 1950's. I mean the pop culture significance of the Elvis version in terms of commercial success. However, musically this article is missing a lot. Wanda Jackson basically was the sister musically in every way of Jerry Lee, Little Richard and Elvis, and she had to be all that with minimal encouragement or positive guidance - although I'm sure you could make the same case for Little Richard - . But I think in terms of not being taken seriously....Wanda would have been taken by the industry as a bit of a freak show and not just as a person with a love for a certain art. The proof is in the listening.Harborsparrow (talk) 13:56, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
