pronunciation
[edit]Is there a reason the pronunciation of this name is irregular in stress and vowel length? An anon. has threatened to "ban" me for getting it wrong. — kwami (talk) 18:32, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- OK! I wanted only avoid an edit war :-) . Bye, Alex2006 (talk) 11:31, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- I appreciate that, and suspect that our condescending IP may be a blocked or banned editor, but this is a reasonable ref. (We need to give RS a bit of leeway with pronunciations that aren't likely to ever appear in a dictionary.) Also, I've tried starting a discussion of the larger issue. — kwami (talk) 11:41, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
The current ref does, however, stress the şa rather than the gil. Prosody? — kwami (talk) 11:42, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know (I am neither Turk nor a specialist :-)) but I looked the pronunciation of an Italian word corrected by our friend, and it was definitively wrong... Alex2006 (talk) 11:49, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Recently? I changed (hopefully fixed) a couple of his Italian corrections, but the errors I noticed were minor. — kwami (talk) 12:00, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it was today, and you corrected them. But pronouncing Giovanni as a yankee is not exactly a minor mistake :-) Alex2006 (talk) 12:05, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
