Sinking

[edit]

D.K. Brown give notes on the Lyme Bay practice shoot & the statement that the outcome was swift or surprising seems rather contrary to the details; the ship was hit by 95+ shells, of which 44 were modern 12 inch or 13.5 inch common. After such a pasting the ship is noted as "blazing furiously", yet still took 1 hr 45 minto sink! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.75.48.5 (talk) 11:44, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have checked Burt, Brown and the diving website, and rewritten the section.
I am not sure whether I should have mentioned that the diagram in Brown showed her 13.5-in guns present, and the diving site says they are not present in the wreck now; the inference being that they must have been removed in salvage - the inference being that they must have been removed during salvage - I would like a source to specifically state that the 13.5-in guns were salvaged.--Toddy1 (talk) 10:25, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Will take this one. Parsecboy (talk) 12:13, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do dupe links, licenses check out
  • You might clarify in the box that the displacement given is standard, not full load
  • Seems a little odd to go back and forth between describing Empress of India's characteristics and that of the class (i.e., "her" vs. "their")
    • Yeah, I've recently been moving more to a generic description for the description to make it easier to copy over to the other ships of the class.
  • Gun turrets? The Royal Sovereigns carried their guns in barbette mounts (save Hood, of course)
    • Good catch.
  • Should "International Squadron" be capitalized?
    • It does refer to a specific organization, so I think it's a proper noun.
  • The last paragraph of the Construction and career section needs a citation.
  • "A big hole extant in her side..." - extant seems redundant here.
