Notability and sources

[edit]

Per WP:GEOLAND, "populated, legally recognized places are typically presumed to be notable". If having a post office counts as legal recognition, then Gulf Hammock meets this criteria.(USPS finder page for Gulf Hammock) Aside from that, however, I've had no luck finding anything close to reliable sources about the community through Google, aside from one newspaper article about having a car break down in Gulf Hammock, and a journal article with a map showing that Wekiva Creek (not Wekiva River) passes though it. I can find hundreds of scholarly articles about the Gulf Hammock region, but very few even mention in passing that there is a community named Gulf Hammock. There may be some paper histories of Levy County that have information about the community, but I have neglected my one contact in the Levy County Historical Society, and will have to look elsewhere. I'll check in the library the next time I go in to see if I can find anything. Donald Albury 20:26, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There are some residents within Gulf Hammock, and it is recognized as an existing unincorporated community. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 23:44, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found enough material about the community to satisfy myself, and expanded the article a couple of years ago. Donald Albury 17:21, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
